The idea came from the fair office workers.This year s opening ceremony will have a special presentation at noon Sunday, July 28 at the Flag Plaza. We re keeping a secret until opening day. Lots of dignitaries will be attending come join us for the beginning of the 174th Greene County Fair, said Fair Secretary Esther Pierson. Check out the BIG sign at Factory Road and US Route 35 this year. We are advertising on that sign through one of our generous sponsors. The fair is doing something different this year to help make the cost of entry into the fair more affordable and to help local food pantries. The food will be donated to county food pantries. Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. bring a non-perishable food item (or two) and enter the fair for $2. That s a $4 savings.Those attending the festivities can expect to find many of their old favorites along with some new attractions.Harness racing, demolition derby, strongman contest and truck and tractor pull all return this year to the grandstand. The entertainment center will host on stage The VanDells, Matt Enik, The Inheritance, Shotgun Band, Wyatt McCubbin and McGuffey Lane this year.Family Night will be held Thursday, Aug. 1 with rides opening at 4 p.m. Unlimited ride wristband prices from 4-10 p.m. will be announced. After 5 p.m. until closing, wristbands will be priced at a discount, with special giveaways for children.All week there will be pig races, a petting zoo, camel rides and Taco The Wood Carver doing demonstrations.
