However, it was learnt that the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) had recently been grilled by the Legal Investigation and Enforcement (LIE) department of the FRC.

Speaking in Abuja, while receiving members of the Niger State House of Assembly and FRC, Niger State, who were on an exchange visit to the commission, Yelwa expressed regret that public funds had been grossly mismanaged thereby dampening the prospects of future generation.

He said a situation where the economy was still monolithic-depending largely from oil proceeds may land us in a hell of trouble tomorrow if the current spending spree was not checked.

Yelwa said state resources had often been used up without consideration to save for the rainy day and for the up-coming generation.

The FRC chairman noted that the Act was established among other things, to address the concerns of future generation.

He said: When you have a situation where you do not have control over your main product (oil), you are in trouble.

According to him: Some of us have seen a situation, where budgets crashed within six months of its announcement because oil crashed.

Also yesterday, the FRC faulted  the former Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, who had alluded to the FRC as being a sleeping watchdog.

El-Rufai had blamed the commission for some of the country s economic woes, accusing it of being lax about fulfilling its role.

He said looking at public expenditure and available resources, budgets over the years had risen and had often been over-bloated, making it difficult to achieve 80 per cent implementation.
