1992 – forward Larry Bird announced his retirement from the NBA after 13 seasons. Bird joined Celtics management as a special assistant to Senior Executive Vice President Dave Gavitt. The three-time NBA champion and two-time Finals MVP is the only player all-time to be named the NBA Most Valuable Player, Coach of the Year and Executive of the Year.
