The North Las Vegas City Council voted on Wednesday to decide on a contractor to raze the abandoned Buena Vista Apartments. The issue: The blighted Buena Vista Apartments has long been an eyesore for the residents near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Carey Avenue. Before the state ruled the building unfit to live in, it had been a hotbed for gangs and criminal activity. After it closed, it became a magnet for vandalism, broken windows and graffiti. The building has since been boarded up and cleaned of vandalism, but residents want it gone. The North Valley Community Leadership team has been working with Councilwoman Pamela Goynes-Brone to raze the complex for the last five years. North Valley Community Leadership team members hope that the land the apartments once occupied could be used to revitalize the community.
