A couple weeks before, I was discussing a video project with some producers out of Hollywood. They delicately threw out the composition, "P&A", that I noticed as "PNA" over my cellular phone. In my own occupation pneumonia is meant by PNA and while I consider myself rather acronym-savvy, I was almost certain PNA in this debate had nothing to do with pneumonia. I'd no clue what these were speaking about. (FYI - P&A in the movie business presents "prints and ads"). Out of interest, I needed to find out exactly how many meanings the familiar BLS phrase held. So, used to do a little investigation and discovered forty-one different connotations for the acronym BLS. Wow! I was surprised to discover a multitude of meaning staring right back at me from the site, as I scrolled through the extensive listing of BLS games. From "Bureau of Labor Statistics" to "Bacterial Leaf Streak" was manifested. Perfect sense was made by most of those listed and I wondered how one protects BLS as their own individual acronym. Can there be an activity to grab hold of these three words and assign meaning in it - meaning that belongs to just you? I envisioned an extended line of BLS acronym-snaggers standing before a caged bubblegum- taking blonde who'd absent-mindedly press anything on a certificate and call out, "Next?" as she looked up from her work only periodically. Patiently waiting and often right stood the British Lichen Society just before Botswana Lesotho-Swaziland. Going an impatient bottom very nearly "next" stands an agent from the Blackboard Learning System while someone from the Bachelor of Leisure Studies and Business Livery Service gently trade cards near the back of the room. Unexpectedly, Black Label Society (band) breaks out to their latest hit and another songbird from Boston's Latin School joins in. Throw in Block Line Set and Below Land Surface and you have a diverse gathering of meaning in the mix. Needless to say this is all made in my own head but you've got to wonder how all of these corporations came to share the exact same composition. As I look at the forty-one representations, I smile as I understand our BLS could be the only 1 that everybody uses to truly save lives. Possibly BLS (Basic Life Support) might be crowned the worldwide, global life-saving composition. It's sure that any other BLS acronym-user can understand the need for Basic Life Support, perhaps even how to accomplish its life-saving practices if needed. There is a weighty shift in importance for BLS as it presents the procedure for saving a life. I think that puts BLS at the front of the range, don't you?
