After experiencing an extreme situation of bell's palsy in 2007, I was left with the right side of my face lifeless, my eye and forehead was left with no muscle tone whatsoever. My attention was almost shut and watered all the time, and my mouth was left loose, on one side, causing me to dribble when I ate or drank anything. After obtaining therapy in Australia from neurologists and lots of other professionals, including Botox shots and months of being on steroids and morphine because of the pain and days in and out of hospital, I turned housebound and quite depressed and started to seek assistance from Cosmetic Or Plastic Surgeons in Australia. Anxious to become restored to my old home, the only choices I was told was to have a face lift and the price could be anywhere from $15,000 to some massive $25,000 with no guarantees. Understanding how bad I was experiencing, my husband noticed articles in the Sunday magazine that advertised Cosmetic Surgery in Thailand having a saving of up to 70-80. I did some research on the web and discovered some frightening stories and some great stories, some stories of how filthy the hospitals were and how they did not sterilize their needles etc, then other stories saying what a high standard the attention was so I was quite dubious, and not understanding much about Thailand at all, I believed about it for some days before dialing the range on the advertising. That call literally changed my entire life. I discovered that 3 physicians in one of Thailands top hospitals were offering free meetings and visiting Australia, and answering questions. I went along to the meeting unsure of what I would discover, and met three of the most caring, caring, warm and friendly spanish men. They spoke good English, showed me a dvd of the clinic, the services and also things to expect like a traveler visiting Thailand. Following the doctor gave me his telephone number and current email address and told me to get hold of him anytime if I had any questions I would want to ask. I left that meeting with an atmosphere of good hope and delight that I'd found the right doctor, some body that comprehended my needs and paid attention to me. Eventually I was going to get my old face right back, I could not wait. I boarded my flight for Thailand a couple of weeks later, because we've three young kids, I had to make the journey by myself and it was term time. I was scared to death, not because of-the surgery, but because I was traveling alone to a strange place. I fell deeply in love with Thailand there and then, the people are so calm, so beautiful and kind, the culture is so different from whatever I'd ever experienced before. After a quick nap and some charming spanish food at among the several beachside cafes, my driver picked me up and drove me to a medical facility where I was met by-the most wonderful and immaculately dressed nurses. Within a few minutes I was reacquainted with all the charming thai men that I had met in Australia. After returning to my hotel, completely destroyed from my thrilling quest, I slept just like a child before next day. Positive as his term, my driver was there 8am on the dot. I'd a window overlooking the beautiful welcome basket, a veranda, lcd tv, ensuite, phone, net, city and all the luxuries of property and I was waited on-hand and foot by a flow of beautiful nurses. The medical staff were wonderful. When I awoke I was within my room, together with the doctor and two nurses, looking after my every need. I chose my dinner from any restaurant that could be beaten by a menu, then I slept on and off between nurses arriving and out through the night doing their obs that morning. I remained for two nights, because I was travelling on my own, then I was taken back to my resort, with my drugs and ointments, I spent the next 10 times between the areas, the beach and the restaurants. Everyday some one from the clinic checked through to me and asked if I needed any such thing. After being granted the all clear, and eventually experiencing the brand new or previous me back again, I was taken back to my hotel for a few hours, sleep and packing. Fairly unhappy that I'd fallen in love with Thailand, my journey had arrived at a conclusion and it's lovely people, sometime I would return with my children and share in-the miracles of Thailand.
