Headley earned the starting job mid-way through the 2008 season, and for the next four years was a steady producer in the Padres' lineup. At age 28, Headley finally broke out last season, slugging .286/.376/.498 with 31 home runs, a 145 wRC+, 7.2 WAR, and a league leading 115 RBIs. He won both a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger Award while finishing 5th in NL MVP voting.

Unfortunately, Headley's overall production has slipped significantly in 2013, as he is currently hitting .243/.335/.380 with a 3.1 WAR in 126 games. Headley is still an above average offensive weapon with a 110 OPS+ this season, and his defense has continued to be phenomenal. Headley suffered a thumb injury late in spring training, and it is very possible that lingering effects from the injury have hampered his play this season.

Considering Headley will probably be more valuable then a compensatory first round selection in the 2015 amateur draft, the Padres have two viable options for how to handle Headley's future with the team.

The first option would be to sign Headley to a contract extension this winter. While the option probably seems appealing to the Padres organization, as they could get a potential discount on a star-caliber player coming off a disappointing season, Headley's camp may prefer to delay the signing of a new deal until sometime during the 2014 season, in hopes that Headley can recover some of his lost stock.

The other potential path for the Padres would be to trade him sometime this offseason or before next summer's trade deadline. There should be a decent number of teams looking for a long term solution at third base, with the  and  being two possible suitors.

In her 20s and 30s, Diane Horowitz thought she was bulletproof. Seemingly immune from colds and flu and so sure of her health that when she lost her job in 2003, she put off buying health insurance until she found new employment.
When she found a lump in her breast in June 2004 at the age of 38, the Manalapan resident called a surgeon to schedule a biopsy. Horowitz told the scheduler she would simply pay for the procedure herself.
?She said, ?You don?t understand. What if this turns out to be cancer? How are you going to pay for this?? ? Horowitz recounted. ?I said, ?I?ll just pay out of pocket.? She said, ?You don?t understand. This is something you won?t be able to pay for just out of pocket.? ?
Horowitz is one of millions of uninsured residents in New Jersey and nationwide who can begin shopping for health plans on Oct. 1 in the next phase of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, commonly known as .
If Obamacare was in place nine years ago, it wouldn?t necessarily have prevented Horowitz from slipping through the cracks. But it would have offered incentives ? financial aid with the threat of a penalty ? to get her to sign up. Had she done so, she would have alleviated the stress she encountered knowing that her frantic bid to find insurance was going to be denied.
The law, caught in the whirlwind of political arguments, has created confusion among consumers who already struggle to understand the complicated, jargon-filled world of premiums and deductibles. And they are getting little help sifting through it. More than three years after the law was enacted, Republicans are trying to derail it, threatening to pull its funding in exchange for raising the federal government?s debt limit.
Today, and for the next three days, the Courier News and Home News Tribune will help you cut through the rhetoric and focus on the facts to make informed decisions about your health care by providing details on:
(Page 2 of 6)<br>? Individual and family health care plans. An estimated 901,000 New Jersey residents are uninsured but eligible for care through the federal government?s health-care exchange. ? Small businesses and other options for employers. Much of the collective fear has been how businesses will react to the health care mandates. Media reports of small businesses, even municipal governments, reducing worker hours to avoid future costs under the law have people wondering if it will push the economy into another recession.
? The impact on hospitals and doctors. Beyond costs, Obamacare will compel health care providers to find ways to keep their patients healthy once they leave the hospital and doctor?s office. For every $1 spent per person on smoking cessation, better nutrition and exercise, the government and insurers can expect to save $6 in long-term medical care or about $16 billion, according to Trust for America?s Health, a physician-led public health organization.

Although Obamacare promises to cover patients such as Horowitz, who survived two battles with cancer, it also has been a source of agitation for Americans who aren?t enthralled with the idea of their government forcing them to participate in the program.
While it has little impact on employees who already have insurance, it has created uncertainty for employers, causing some of them to look for loopholes in the law so they won?t be penalized for failing to cover their workers.
(Page 3 of 6)<br>?Right now, if you go out and buy insurance on your own, it?s a very confusing process,? said David Adler, a program officer for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in Plainsboro, which studies health care issues. ?You can be turned down or charged astronomical rates for many reasons. That?s going to change, which will be a big comfort to people.?
Obamacare is designed to cover what the U.S. Census Bureau estimates is 48.6 million people without insurance. Middlesex County had 101,081 uninsured; Camden County had 54,593 uninsured; Monmouth County had 54,108 uninsured; and Ocean County had 43,216 uninsured, according to data compiled by Rutgers University.
Those residents, and another 150,000 New Jerseyans who had costly individual insurance plans, will need to start shopping.
Consumer guideHere is your guide to the new insurance plan, based on information from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Kaiser Family Foundation:
Who is eligible to shop at the health exchange?
The exchange is mainly for consumers who don?t have health insurance through their employer, yet earn too much money to qualify for Medicaid. Workers who lose their jobs can either continue their coverage through the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, usually called COBRA, which allows them to keep their insurance if they pay for the premiums, or go to the exchange.
What will we find on the exchange?
Two private insurers, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey and AmeriHealth New Jersey, which, according to state figures, already account for nearly 87 percent of the individual market,[http://tsvd.org/wiki/%E0%B8%9C%E0%B8%B9%E0%B9%89%E0%B9%83%E0%B8%8A%E0%B9%89:Kszixfcg9#Atheist_writer_Richard_Dawkins_sparks_outrage_by_suggesting Atheist writer Richard Dawkins sparks outrage by suggesting], have said they plan to sell insurance plans there. Aetna withdrew its application, although it said it would continue to sell individual plans outside the exchange.
How much will it cost?
The government hasn?t released details about what premiums in New Jersey?s exchange will cost, but it said last week that 56 percent of the uninsured could pay less than $100 a month after they receive tax credits or qualify for Medicaid.
(Page 4 of 6)<br>The two companies will offer four different plans each ? platinum, gold, silver and bronze. Platinum will be the most expensive, but it will require consumers to spend less out of their own pockets. Bronze will be the most affordable, but it will require consumers to spend more out of pocket. (Tip: If you?re young and healthy, consider the bronze plan).
When does the plan go into effect?
Open enrollment begins Oct. 1. The policies take effect Jan. 1. But you still can buy insurance from the exchange through March 31. Open enrollment won?t last as long in future years.
Do I have to get coverage?
No, but you will be penalized by the Internal Revenue Service if you don?t.
How much?
In 2014, it is $95 for an adult and $47.50 per child, or 1 percent of your family income, whichever is more. In 2015, it is $325 for an adult and $162.50 for a child, or 2 percent of your income, whichever is more. And in 2016, it is $695 for an adult and $347.50 for a child, or 2.5 percent of your income, also whichever is more.
Wouldn?t it just be cheaper to pay the fine?
Possibly. Although consumers who earn as much as four times the poverty rate ? that?s $45,960 for an individual or $94,200 for a family of four ? can receive subsidies that can be paid directly to the insurance company. And, of course, what if you get sick? You will need to wait another year until open enrollment begins again.
Example?
Let?s say you?re a 40-year-old preschool teacher making $30,750 a year. You go with a silver plan that costs $3,857. With a subsidy, it will cost you $2,633 for the year. The fine in the first year would be about $308 if you skip the insurance. The less you make, the more of a subsidy you can receive. What do I get in return? 
The policies will be quite comprehensive. Insurers can?t deny you coverage or charge you more for a pre-existing condition. They can?t discriminate based on gender. They have to provide at least some coverage for 10 benefits, including hospitalization, maternity care and rehabilitation. And they likely will cover the full cost of preventative care, such as annual physicals, mammograms and colonoscopies.

Only employers with 50 or more full-time equivalent workers are required to provide health insurance. And those employers need to meet certain standards. They need to make sure 60 percent of benefits are reimbursed by insurers. And their workers can?t spend more than 9.5 percent of their family?s income on health insurance, Kevin Quinn, partner with , based in Garden City, N.Y., said.

Not totally on boardThe mandate has rubbed many uninsured the wrong way. She hasn?t had health insurance since 2009, when she left her supermarket job after hurting her back. She now volunteers at an Asbury Park health clinic.
When she does get sick, she resorts to old-fashioned remedies. Chicken soup and honey and vinegar always seem to do the trick. Anything more serious, she said she would go to the hospital, where they couldn?t deny her coverage. She knows it would put her deep in debt, but she said her credit rating is shot anyway.
She likely would qualify for charity care, where the cost is absorbed by New Jersey taxpayers and the hospitals themselves. The state in 2013 set aside $675 million to partially reimburse hospitals for the estimated $1 billion in free care they provide, according to the New Jersey Hospital Association, a trade group.
(Page 6 of 6)<br>Obamacare ideally would reduce this cost on two fronts. First, everyone would have health insurance. Second, they would see a primary care doctor, who would help them better manage their care.
Montgomery, vacillates on the law. She thinks it is well intentioned. But she is taken aback by what she sees as an intrusion by the government.
Buying health insurance? ?That should be a matter of personal choice,? Montgomery said.
If health reform goes as policymakers hope, Diane Horowitz may find some stability in her life.
Horowitz, now 47, has been the face of a giant CentraState Health Care System marketing campaign, and for good reason. One could make an argument that she owes her life to the health care company. The Freehold Township hospital treated her for breast cancer and colon cancer and accepted her into its charity care program.
But her story is more complicated. She worked in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. After she lost her job, she sold products for a skin care line and worked as an actor, cobbling together a modest living and forgoing health insurance to make ends meet.
After she found a lump in her breast in 2004, she tried to schedule an appointment for a biopsy, only to be asked how she would pay for the procedure. She hung up and started calling insurers, who denied her request because she had a pre-existing condition.
Frantic, Horowitz was shepherded through the tests and surgery by a CentraState surgeon and then was relieved to learn she qualified for charity care.
The bills came in: $4,000 for this,<b>[http://lampit.in/product.html Patriots Jerseys Sale]</b>, $6,000 for that. To this day, she doesn?t know the total cost. CentraState said the procedures were done so long ago that it couldn?t provide an estimate. But breast cancer treatment can range from $20,000 to $100,000, according to by the National Center for Biotechnology Information, a government database.
With no income, Horowitz stayed afloat thanks to her parents and boyfriend. And for the next three years she considered herself a full-time medical patient, going for follow-up tests and then treating colon cancer. Now cancer free, she has been careful to get preventative tests each year ? and to not earn too much money that she loses her charity care.
The law?s supporters would say this: If she continues to make so little that she doesn?t file a tax return, she won?t be penalized for not having health insurance. But if she gets a job, she can find affordable health insurance with a policy that is comprehensive enough that, if she gets sick again, it won?t leave her bankrupt, too.
?I?m proud and happy that I?ve been that many years (cancer-free), but with my history, anything can happen,? Horowitz said. ?I can never breathe easy. So having health insurance would have alleviated a lot of stress.?

The youths served by Middle Earth also are creating exhibits to educate attendees about the causes for which they are raising funds.

In between four 10-minute quarters, games for younger children will be offered, Strada said. Free food and giveaways will be among the highlights, she said.

"We have carried out the necessary measures in this field, and since the outbreak of the Stuxnet virus, the Atomic Energy Organization has embarked on countering such malwares," he said, according to Tasnim. "To this end computer protection systems were upgraded, and we also separated the systems that were connected to the Internet."<br>

 The launch last week of the country’s health insurance exchanges ― the centerpiece of the Affordable Care Act ― prompted millions of Americans to go shopping for plans.

 But for 50 million enrollees in Medicare, another important event is about to begin.

 Medicare open enrollment ― the period when you can make changes to your Medicare prescription drug plans and to your Medicare Advantage plans for the coming year ― starts on Oct. 15 and extends until Dec. 7.

 With so much attention being paid to the new health insurance marketplaces, it’s easy to get confused about Medicare open enrollment this year.

 

 In fact, 17% of seniors mistakenly believe the exchanges could replace their Medicare plans altogether, according to a survey by Express Scripts. Many believe they have to enroll in an exchange plan to avoid penalties.

 “We are getting calls: Do I have to do something because of Obamacare?” said Joe Baker, president of Medicare Rights Center, a nonprofit consumer service organization that provides counseling and education.

 “The answer is no.”

 And how proud was Suzanne of Sally? When Dofasco honoured the great founders of steel in a company publication 10 years ago, they neglected to acknowledge the role the women played.

 The team, founded by former Washington Redskins cheerleader Ana De Villegas in 2011, doesn’t perform inside MetLife Stadium, but they’re outside every Sunday home game, amping up the tailgating crowd.

No matter where you celebrate, look for poodle skirts and big hair. Sales suggest that outfits rooted in the 1950s, '80s and '90s will be prevalent, Botsford said.

Americans are expected to spend $6.9 billion on Halloween treats, decorations, parties and costumes this year,<b>[http://lampit.in/product.html Patriots Jerseys Sale]</b>, according to results of a survey by the National Retail Federation. Adults, mostly those ages 18 through their early 30s, say they plan to wear a costume. Also predicted to top the list for pop-culture costumes are Walter White from Breaking Bad, characters from Game of Thrones and Cyrus' twerking co-star and Blurred Lines singer, Robin Thicke.

For adults, the right Halloween costume is about posturing.

 Putting on a costume gives people 'psychological permission' to behave differently than they normally do, said April Masini, author of the online  column. Wearing something sexy, silly, mysterious or scary evokes feelings in the costume wearer and the partner of the costume wearer, and these evoked feelings can lead to new behaviors like silliness, sexiness, edginess, etc. 

So, go ahead and dress provocatively, or button up your white trench coat and channel television's Olivia Pope from Scandal. You might have fun, but you won't win any contests at , 1579 S. 9th St. Bryant's, a semifinalist for a James Beard award for its bar program, will host a Mad Men party for the fourth consecutive year. The party starts at 8 p.m. on Nov. 2.

Halloween on wheels

Tandem costumes Batman and Robin, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Starsky and Hutch are among the classics, Cyr said. Popular culture might inspire the riders, but weather and convenience ultimately dictate style.

 It's hard to ride on a bike for five or six hours after a beer or two in a skimpy outfit, he said.

From behind the bar, first at Cafe Hollander and now at Trocadero, Cyr has seen plenty of homemade costumes, often with a twist. One couple came as Bret Michaels and a girlfriend but she was Michaels in a bandanna and her male friend was dressed as Michaels' girlfriend.

Cyr said last-minute costume makers sometimes rely on clever word play for a costume. He recalled someone dressed in pink with a tiny chair affixed to the reveler's head. The costume? Gum under a chair.

Zombies, roadkill
