JD Salinger was one of the world's most famous recluses. The shorthand is this: after rising to fame for Catcher in the Rye, and a few gruesome murders tied to the book, Salinger locked himself away from years until his death. But this is what we always hear.
Don't get me wrong: I was excited by the prospect of a Muckraking Documentary By The Weinstein Company, but upon viewing the trailer I was quickly disgusted. It looks like some cheap CBS special. ?All these people labeling Salinger off as a one-trick pony, hailing Catcher in the Rye but eschewing the other more illustrious range of his work, not to mention when all these people from Salinger's life--supposedly intimate friends and compatriots--come forward to eviscerate his character like vultures licking an antelope's carcass on the side of the road for a cheap buck. Classy.
Salerno's documentary does not take the enlightened path for the enlightened man Salinger was. In the first women's major played in Europe, Pettersen beat teenage star Lydia Ko of New Zealand by two shots to win the Evian Championship on Sunday and clinch the second major title of her career.
The Norwegian calmly rolled in her par putt to seal the title. Pettersen then leaned back and held her head in her hands, hugged her caddie and laughed as she was surrounded by friends spraying her with Champagne on the green.

This was the first year that Evian counted as the fifth and final major of the year on the women's calendar.
"I don't know if it's quite sunk in yet that I've won another major. It's been a while, but I'm pretty lucky to say that I've won two," Pettersen said. "Hopefully, this is just the start. It's been such a great month, five weeks for me, starting off with the Solheim (Cup). It was a great kick-start for what became the best month of my career."
The third-ranked Pettersen plans to have "one heck of a party" to celebrate, before focusing on her goal to earn the No. 1 ranking.

She'll have to wait until next year for a chance to break American Morgan Pressel's record of youngest major winner. Pressel was 18 years, 10 months, 9 days when she won the Kraft Nabisco Championship in 2007.

She recovered with a birdie on the next hole and led Ko by one shot and Ryu by two after the front nine.
Ko looked stern-faced after missing a chance to move level on the 12th, and Pettersen shook her head in disbelief as her second shot on 13th drifted wide into the choppy rough. But she ended up saving a tricky par while Ko had to settle for bogey, leaving her two shots ahead.
Ko looked downbeat when she missed another birdie chance on 17.
"I didn't feel confident with my putting today. Meanwhile, conservative leaders wouldn't bite when asked whether the debt-ceiling proposal has the votes to pass.
"You must confuse me with the whip," said a smiling Rep. Jeb Hensarling of Texas. Pressed to analyze the support within his conference for Boehner's plan, Hensarling repeated three times: "I expect Republicans to be united."
Even Rep. Steve Scalise, chairman of the Republican Study Committee, seemed uncertain of whether Boehner's presentation had won over a sufficient number of conservatives. "We're going to find out," he said. "You'll have to ask the whip."

I would suggest reading the book getting things done . It has a system of task lists which is designed specifically so that you don't have to remember things. This, in combination with having a smart phone with a good task app, will go miles towards keeping you in charge of your life.<br>
I always forget stuff, but ever since I started writing everything down on my phone as soon as I think of it, I don't need to worry about it any more. It is very freeing. It also has the side effect of helping me to actually do things, since I no longer have the excuse of not remembering. Before, if I needed to do 3 things at the mall, I'd end up taking several trips over the week, because I would never remember. Now, I get everything done in that one trip, and will also notice that I have to stop somewhere which is just down the block, so I end up being much more productive.<br>
The system in Getting Things Done is well thought out, and while it may seem a little overkill to you (or maybe not), even just taking aspects of it will help immensely. I write everything down as soon as I think of it. I have different kinds of lists for different kinds of tasks - one on my phone, one in a notebook that stays on my desk, and one in a little notebook I keep in my bag. I get lazy, and don't want to remember stuff, so I ask my subconscious to remember it for me. So for grocery items, I will picture myself at the grocery store, and picture myself walking past the oranges and then imagined me suddenly remembers don't forget butter and onions! <br>
So then in real life when I walk past the oranges, I go hey, I should get butter and onions! <br>
This way you are pre-programming your mind to have stuff suddenly pop in your head. Like I said, I'm lazy the subconscious is an amazing thing.<br>
Also, slow down. Pay attention to where you are putting things. Use your left hand (if you are right handed). Use a different method to [whatever activity]. Guess how I can tell you've never had major problems with forgetfulness. This is totally true for some lucky people, and painfully false for others. Lists are a great tool, but for a lot of people, they are not enough. Not until we figure out a way to have lists flashing before our eyes 24/7 that can never be forgotten about, lost, or ignored. Even that won't solve the problem of being overwhelmed by the sheer number of things that need to be remembered. Lists don't work so well when you have 127 things on them that all need to be done sometime.<br>
Anyway, the number one best thing that's worked for me is trying really hard to form a few key habits, including the habit of using a portable calendar/dayplanner/scheduler of some kind, religiously. If you can manage to always have it with you so you can immediately write down appointments etc., and get into the habit of checking it many many times a day, that solves a bunch of the things you need to remember. <br>
Losing stuff - everything needs to have a dedicated place and things need to be ONLY ever in that place, in a bag if you've taken them somewhere, or (optional) in a temporary sorting area like a dedicated table/bowl/hook/even a floor area (NOT drawers, you'll never remember to empty it). <br>
Catching thoughts that cross your mind - try to have a capturing system with you all the time - notebook, phone, etc. Write things down immediately and try to have somewhere to put them later (calendar, or can read GTD for more ideas here, I haven't yet). <br>
If I have to remember something unusual in the morning, I leave a note to myself somewhere I will always see it. <br>
Sleep is HUGE. It's hard to manage, but it does make a big difference in how spacey I am. When you're less tired, you're paying more attention to what you're doing so it's easier to remember later. Maybe look into some sleep hygiene tips/get a fancypants mattress so you can improve the quality of the sleep time you have available?<br>
And since you said psychiatrist at the time , it seems like you don't have one now - I'd suggest talking to one about your anxiety/borderline ADD - medication for either or both of these could make a huge difference for you. A new psych might also have a different idea of how borderline ADD you are - it's a very subjective diagnosis. You also might find some useful tips by searching for add organizing strategies, even if you don't have ADD - it's more of a spectrum than present/absent, anyway.<br>
Good luck. There are lots and lots of tools available that can help. It's still totally understandable to struggle - I have a hard time with this stuff too and I don't have kids, which I'm sure makes it a thousand times harder! Here's my similar story: When Kinetic 3 (now 15yo boy) was around 12, I thought he had a nice group of friends, a very sweet female best friend and a decent social life. <br>
And one day I got a call from his best friend Ashley's dad. Now, I was used to chatting with other moms to plan things but a call from a dad was unusual. And I was like, Hey Ashley's dad; what's up? I found out that Kinetic 3 had been calling Ashley pretty much every three minutes for hours every day after school and that times when I had driven Kinetic 3 to basketball or the ice rink, he was there checking up on Ashley. He described what Kinetic 3 was doing and it's exactly what your daughter's friend is doing. Kinetic 3 was a creepy stalker. My own son.<br>
I was floored. I had no idea my kid was doing that. So I got Kinetic 3 to a psychiatrist and a therapist and he was diagnosed with OCD which can get really bad as kids go through puberty.<br>
What I'm saying is that even though I'm a friggin special education teacher who works with high schoolers who have emotional disabilities, I didn't see it in my own kid.<br>
I needed another parent to tell me what was going on.<br>
So I suggest three things:<br>
1. Talk to M's mom one more time. Couch it in terms of how much you care for her daughter, but her daughter appears to be in a very bad place and is behaving in a worrisome way. Because chances are, her mom doesn't see the whole picture. It'll be a delicate conversation, but when Ashley's dad said, We love your son but he's stalking my daughter and we will need to take legal steps to stop this, and I think he may have OCD, that got my attention.<br>
2. Talk to the school if only to put on their radar that M could be a child in crisis (the bad thought OCD will probably get MUCH WORSE without treatment) and yes, you're also concerned for your own kid. When Kinetic 3's school found out about the OCD and his behavior, they were amazing at finding him placement in a program for kids with these issues. I'm not saying this will happen in your case, but it's nice of you to mark their card, so to speak.<br>
3. Talk to your daughter! It can be very sad and traumatic to be on the receiving end of this type of attention and your daughter is probably wondering what she could do to get her normal friend back and fix everything.<br>

Man, I'd ride the school on this one all the way in addition to calling the mom. You should be able to block her number on your daughter's phone with your service provider (for texting and calls), I'd do it. I've done it myself in the past to my own kids. I'd answer the house phone instead of your daughter or at least have her check the number before she answers. Her OCD is no excuse for the school not to take action. I'd speak to my kid's teacher(s), her guidance councilor, the principal, etc.. I'd ask that they be kept away from each other during class and esp. during lunch. Does your school have a resource officer? Try them as well. Or you can speak to the police dept. Most police dept. now have an officer who deals with kids and bullying. <br>
In the meantime for your daughter, I'd encourage her to invite new friends over. I'd try to get her involved in new activities, sports or whatever. The fact that M is older and has no friends in her own grade is esp. worrying. Most middle school kids have friends in their own grade - they tend to be very peer orientated and she should not be attaching herself so strongly to your daughter. <br>
Get your daughter to a therapist so she discuss her fears without you around. <br>
