== Senate website gets 2nd Amendment wrong, critics say ==

Well it seems to me that other players and teams, especially the Heat and Dwyane Wade, aren’t giving the Knicks respect this season.

Last season the Knicks had their best regular season since the Patrick Ewing era. Do they have anything to show for it? No, but it’s still a great accomplishment that Knicks fans have been waiting and gone through painful years together for.

They saw a resurgence in basketball in their city and saw two of their favorite players win awards like Anthony winning the scoring title and J.R. Smith winning the Sixth?Man of the Year Award.

The 2013 season is now in the rear view mirror and I hate to the bearer of bad news, but those things mean nothing now. The Knicks offseason is over and they now have to defend their Atlantic Division title. They brought back veterans like Pablo Prigioni, Kenyon Martin, and J.R. Smith while losing Jason Kidd and seeing him coach the rival . They also added more veterans like Andrea Bargnani and Metta World Peace.

The Nets are many people’s favorite for the Atlantic Division and most people think they are better than the Knicks. With a starting five of Deron Williams, Joe Johnson,<b><a href="http://softvent.com/images/Giants-Jerseys-For-Cheap.html" title="Authentic Giants Jerseys On Sale">Authentic Giants Jerseys On Sale]</b>, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett,[http://pinoybbdev.com/forum/topic.php?id=72152 Leodis McKelvin “has a chance” to help Bills sec</ a>, and Brook Lopez, I would be lying if I said that’s not an impressive lineup. After watching teams like the 2012 Lakers, 2011 Eagles, 2012 Red Sox, and other super teams fall flat on their face, I’m not sold on anything yet. History has taught us that you don’t win games on paper.

Both Pierce and Wade have sent direct shots at the Knicks without saying their name. Both have said that their competition this season is each other’s respective teams, the Bulls, and the Pacers. Pierce has been a Knicks killer over his career,<b><a href="http://softvent.com/images/Giants-Jerseys-For-Cheap.html" title="Authentic Giants Jerseys Sale">Authentic Giants Jerseys Sale]</b>, averaging 23.4 points, six rebounds, and four assists against them, which are all higher than his career averages vs. all other teams, but Pierce has to learn his place.

The Knicks ended both Boston’s season and Pierce’s tenure with the Celtics last season and put them into rebuilding mode. Pierce wasn’t much of a factor in the series, showing that his age has caught up to him. Pierce and KG are first ballot Hall of Famers but can they handle another full season? The NBA is full of young and exciting talent, so before Pierce says the Nets run New York, let him put on a Nets uniform first.

Wade is allowed to talk because of his three rings and his team winning back-to-back championships, but he has no right to disrespect the Knicks. The Knicks owned the Heat last season, going 3-1 against them. Wade can say whoever he feels like is his competition this season, but sounds foolish not counting the Knicks. The Knicks are in a win now mode and for sure will challenge the Heat this season.

Are the Pacers a great team? Yes. Will the Bulls be a totally different team with a healthy Derrick Rose? Without a question. Are Nets better than the Knicks? They have to prove it but they are definitely better than last season.

What this comes down to is Anthony stepping up for his team and franchise and taking it out on the court. Hope he is remembering who is writing his team off, along with the rest of his teammates. Let this be bulletin board material and translate the disrespect to wins on the court.</html>

== Let us be grateful for the 2013 Pirates ==

<html>In 2007, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays won 66 games. They featured a mismatched collection of players, some talented (B.J. They were interesting, but they didn't look anything like a playoff team.

Before the 2008 season, Nate Silver's PECOTA projection system  that the Rays would win 88 games. At the time, it looked like an off-the-wall prediction, even though most knowledgeable baseball writers thought the Rays (who had by then dropped the "Devil" from their name) were on their way up.

But with a few deft moves and some luck, the Tampa franchise turned its team from a collection of random talented players into a winner. The 2008 Rays shot way past 88 games, winning 97 and making it all the way to the World Series.

This Pirates team's turnaround wasn't quite that dramatic, but it was close. 94 wins is a far better result than any impartial commentator should have predicted. And as with the Rays, the recent the Pirates turned the corner is because they turned their collection of talented players into a team. Their pitching staff generated ground balls, and an improved infield defense shifted like mad and gobbled them up. Free-agent signing Russell Martin, and some great coaching, helped a half-dozen pitchers (Charlie Morton, Jeff Locke, Mark Melancon, Vin Mazzaro, Tony Watson, Jeanmar Gomez) post career-best seasons. Gerrit Cole turned into an ace (or a pitcher who, right now, looks very much like an ace) right in front of us. Francisco Liriano and A.J. Burnett, both bargain-basement acquisitions from the American League, were far better than anyone could have reasonably expected when they were acquired. Starling Marte quietly posted a 4.6 WAR season. Marlon Byrd arrived at the August trade deadline and smacked line drives all over the place. Pedro Alvarez hit 36 home runs and somehow even became a pretty good defensive third baseman. Jordy Mercer and Jose Tabata provided more offense than we expected. And, of course, the Pirates had the best player in the National League in Andrew McCutchen.

A ton went right this year. Just a ton. And so, while the franchise's outlook improved dramatically this season, it may be worthwhile to point out that things may not go quite so smoothly next year. Like the 2008 Rays, the 2013 Pirates were a more talented team than their predecessor ... but, man, this much more talented?

In the coming weeks, as the 2013 season becomes smaller in the rearview mirror, I hope we'll remember it, and appreciate it. Hopefully we'll have many more seasons like this one, as the Rays have. But we might not. In 2003, the Royals had their first winning season in a decade, but the 2004 Royals quickly went down the tubes. Attendance shrank, and the good feelings dissipated almost immediately. The Pirates are much better built for the future than the Royals were, obviously. But I hope we won't immediately begin taking winning seasons,<b>[http://keyamassociates.com/Patriots-Jerseys-For-Cheap.html Authentic Patriots Jerseys Sale]</b>, or playoff berths, for granted.

It's been a hot topic for two years, yet not much has been accomplished. But there's a new sense of urgency to reach a deal on Syria, now with the confirmed use of chemical weapons and the threat of Western force hanging over diplomats' heads.

In an ideal world, the U.N. Security Council would agree on what to do about Syria, where more than 100,000 people have died in the two-year-long civil war.

But the Syria conundrum is like a boxing match with unlimited rounds.

In one corner, countries like the United States and France want Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to step down. At the very least, they want to be able to use force if the regime doesn't give up all its chemical weapons.

In the other corner, Russia and China won't stand for any strong action against their ally.

The clock is ticking.  for the removal of its chemical weapons, but the plan has to be sanctioned as a U.N. resolution.

And since the two sides can't agree on whether to include the threat of force in the resolution, we'll see if the sparring countries can hammer out a deal before time runs out -- or before more bodies pile up.



2. The Iran overture

It's become as predictable as General Assembly's meeting itself: Iran's president take the mic, and .

But this year, the Holocaust-denying, West-baiting Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is gone. In his place is Iran's new president, Hassan Rouhani, who has said he wants to mend fences.

"We must work together to end the unhealthy rivalries and interferences that fuel violence and drive us apart," Rouhani wrote in  last week.

U.S. officials are skeptical about the outreach. They want Iran to walk the walk -- not just talk the talk -- on halting nuclear enrichment.

But Iran's charm offensive,<b>[http://keyamassociates.com/Patriots-Jerseys-For-Cheap.html Authentic Patriots Jerseys Sale]</b>, apparently spurred by tough economic sanctions, has spurred speculation that Rouhani and U.S. President Barack Obama will meet at the General Assembly. If they do, it'll be the first meeting between American and Iranian presidents since Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution.

There's no such meeting on the schedule. But the White House says it hasn't ruled one out, either.



Rouhani will address the General Assembly on Tuesday. Diplomatic corridors are abuzz with speculation that he'll make a dramatic announcement,<b>[http://softvent.com/images/Giants-Jerseys-For-Cheap.html Authentic Giants Jerseys Sale]</b>, perhaps offering to close an nuclear enrichment plant or allow inspectors in. We doubt anyone will be walking out.

3. The Mideast dilemma

Will Palestinians get a step closer this year to becoming a recognized member state?

Last year, Palestinians won recognition from the U.N. General Assembly as a non-member state. The upgraded diplomatic status gave them access to U.N. bodies. It also raised concerns in Israel that Palestinians would seek membership in agencies such as the International Criminal Court, where it can press for war crimes charges against Israel.

This year's agenda will include talks on the " in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem,<b>[http://softvent.com/images/Giants-Jerseys-For-Cheap.html Authentic Giants Jerseys On Sale]</b>, and of the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan over their natural resources."

Obama will meet with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, the first time the two have met since direct Mideast peace negotiations restarted earlier this year. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to visit the White House at the end of the month.

4. The LatAm tension

Things could get awkward when U.S. diplomats run into some of their Latin American counterparts.

Brazil had  over reports that the U.S. was electronically spying on the its president's communications. Both countries agreed to  to Washington in October to a later date.

Venezuela isn't exactly happy with the United States, either. Last week,  of refusing to allow its president's plane to fly through U.S. airspace while en route to China. The State Department denied the claim,  for the plane to fly over Puerto Rico.

 

5. The no-show ... and the not wanted

Not all the 193 countries will be represented in New York.

Kenya recalled its envoy,<a href="http://bbs.popwan.com/home.php?mod=space&uid=917729" rel="bookmark">Int'l Cycling Union Presidential Candidates Clash</ a>, Macharia Kamau, because  has been on trial at the International Criminal Court for alleged crimes against humanity.

The U.N. court accuses Ruto of plotting attacks that killed more than 1,000 people after Kenya's disputed presidential election almost six years ago. He denies it.

Another leader the International Criminal Court would like to get its hands on is Sudan's president.

He's wanted for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity for his alleged role in a five-year campaign of violence in Darfur.

But President Omar al-Bashir might show up anyway.

"As I've said numerous times, he has submitted a visa application. We're not going to sort through the considerations underway right now on that application publicly," U.S. State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf said Friday.

There's little the U.S. can do. As the host country, it's generally obligated to grant visas to heads of state, wanted or not.
