But recent regional conflicts that are neither full-scale wars nor long-drawn battles have driven the market for non-lethal weapons, said to be worth $880.5 million in 2013.

A steady increase in market growth is set to raise that level to $1.15 billion by 2018, the report, "Non-Lethal Weapons Market?(2013-2018)," said.

Civil unrest such as in Brazil and other Latin American countries is seen as a boon for the non-lethal weapons manufacturers. Governments' response to Arab Spring democracy movements in the Middle East and Africa have also generated new demand for non-lethal weaponry acquisitions by beleaguered rulers in those areas.

Urban violence, including student protests in Brazil and Chile and labor revolts in Argentina, have proven a boon to the non-lethal weapons manufacturing industry, which remains concentrated in the West. But the rise of new manufacturing capacity elsewhere, including Latin America and China and other countries in East Asia, is seen likely to buck that trend.

Besides leading manufacturer Brazil in Latin America, several new suppliers for non-lethal weaponry have cropped up, posing a challenge on both price and delivery. Manufacturers in the United States and elsewhere in the West are up against rivals who compete on price, payment terms and lack of parliamentary controls that often come in the way of lucrative arms exports.

"The change in the nature of warfare from conventional to insurgency and war in urban terrain has been a driving factor for the non-lethal weapons sector," said MarketsandMarkets, which published the report.

"The sector is highly competitive with a host of industry participants vying for contracts, and austerity in most Western countries is expected to increase competition," the report said.

The report looked at non-lethal "blunt impact" weapons, including batons and rubber bullets, dispersed weapons, such as tear gas and pepper sprays, electrical devices and directed-energy weapons such stun guns and anti-vehicle weapons that stop short of destroying the target.

"Non-lethal weapons are designed with the intent to minimize casualties and significant injuries, as well as undesired damage to property, in comparison with the use of lethal weapons in the same situations," the U.S. Defense Department's joint non-lethal weapons program says.

The United States is expected to procure non-lethal weapons worth more than $1 billion during the five-year period. 

There have been increased purchases by Russia and many of the emerging economies, including countries in the Middle East, that have had to deal with internal dissent and related domestic security issues.

Apart from the existing non-lethal weapons technology, a number of new capabilities are being developed, mainly by manufacturers in the United States, the report says.

== Collins, Michaud oppose U.S. strike on Syria ==

<html>After a week of closed-door briefings on the Syrian issue, Collins said she could not support a Senate Foreign Relations Committee resolution authorizing military force. The proposal, offered Monday by Foreign Minister , calls on Syria to turn over its stockpile of chemical weapons to international control, destroy the weapons and sign on to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

Obama said he was sending Secretary of State  to meet Lavrov Thursday and would "continue my own discussions" with Russian President Vladimir Putin. 

He called Syria's use of chemical weapons a danger to American security and the security of its allies and said it violated the world's "sense of common humanity."

Security Council that would require Assad to give up his chemical weapons and destroy them under international control, allow U.N. inspectors who investigated the Aug. 21 attack to report their findings and continue to rally support from U.S. allies "who agree on the need for action."

Obama said he also ordered the military to maintain its current posture to keep pressure on the Assad regime and be ready should diplomacy fail.

"Over the last few days we've seen some encouraging signs," Obama said,[http://metrorailindia.com/nba-jerseys.html <strong>cheap nba basketball jerseys</strong>], in part because of the threats of force and his talks with Putin.

"The Russian government has indicated a willingness to join with the international community in pushing Assad to give up his chemical weapons," Obama said. Obama used his 15 minutes to try to allay concerns he said Congress and the American public have about taking any action in Syria, such as a possible entanglement in Syria's 2 1/2-year civil war.

"I will not pursue an open-ended action like Iraq or . I will not pursue a prolonged air campaign like Libya or Kosovo," Obama said. "This would be a targeted strike to achieve a clear objective, deterring the use of chemical weapons and degrading Assad's capabilities."

Concerning the dangers of retaliation, Obama said: "We don't dismiss any threats, but the Assad regime does not have the ability to seriously threaten our military. Any other retaliation they might seek is in line with threats that we face every day."

Obama said he agreed with critics who told him the United States "should not be the world's policemen."

"I agree," Obama said. "Over the last two years, my administration has tried diplomacy and sanctions, warnings and negotiations, but chemical weapons were still used by the Assad regime."

He closed his remarks with a request to members of Congress on both sides of the aisle and on both sides of this issue:

"To my friends on the right, I ask you to reconcile your commitment to America's military might with the failure to act when a cause is so plainly just.

A few things you should know about Brant he is probably best known in business circles for modernizing the paper company his father founded, White Birch Paper, in an age when the newspapers White Birch once serviced were (and still are) dropping like flies.

Thanks to that the Brants stayed wealthy, and Peter used that wealth to take on some interesting hobbies. Two of those hobbies were on full display this weekend. The first was Brant's love of collecting contemporary art, especially works created by his friend, Andy Warhol, and the second was the "sport of kings," polo.

Brant picked up the sport in his 30s (because... why not?) and now hosts matches on the grounds he co-founded, the Greenwich Polo Club, which is also on Conyers Farm.

Needless to say, this was a major plus for Sunday's polo patrons.


As we sipped, the players on the field soared. Polo is all about speed, super clear communication, and some weird psychic ability. This skill made for some exciting moments for an increasingly tipsy crowd. In the last chukker, the opposing side (Airstream) scored an incredible 5 goals. Airstream had been down by 6, and they could've tied the entire thing up. But lucky for Pieres and Brant, they ran out of time. The crowd went nuts.

 Fellow cast members Adam Scott and Adrian Martinez found Stiller s ability to handle his various roles in the film inspiring.

 He was just overwhelmingly meticulous about every detail in the movie and invested in his fellow actors and running a show of this size and being present over everything, Martinez said.

 Stiller s producing partner Stuart Cornfeld told THR that on films in which Stiller s also acting and directing, there s more prep work ahead of time so he can focus on acting while he s on set.

 There s more preparation because it s very important to him that when he s acting, he can spend as much energy on acting as possible, which means that during the prep of the movie, a lot of the questions that you would normally figure out on the day, he wants to work out,[http://philipcareaids.org/Involve.html <strong>Denver Broncos Jerseys Wholesale</strong>], Cornfeld explained.



 Stiller said that while he approaches every film the same way, this one had a different tone than his broad comedies like Tropic Thunder and Zoolander.

 Cast member Patton Oswalt said the concept of creating a 21st century Mitty was what attracted him to the project.

 How do you pull off a movie about a daydreamer, especially now, when we re all just daydreaming? I mean, we f---ing pay $500 to carry daydreams around, Oswalt told THR, pulling out his smartphone. So that really pulled me in, like they re going to do Walter Mitty now, post-Twitter, post-Instagram? Let s see what they do. 



Producer John Goldwyn, whose grandfather Samuel Goldwyn produced the original film, said having the film debut as the centerpiece gala screening at the festival allowed them to show that the new version of Walter Mitty is different from the ones that came before.

 The fact that the New York Film Festival selected us gave us the opportunity to have a real platform for the world to understand that the movie is different. It s not a remake. It s not a rehash of anything old, he explained.

 The fact that the movie was filmed and takes place in Stiller s hometown also made it appropriate for a Gotham debut, Cornfeld told THR.

 Ben is a real New Yorker. We could have shot this movie in any city, but Ben was very insistent upon New York, Cornfeld said. He feels an affinity for the city; he feels there s an energy -- all the New York stuff that he wanted to capture. And he felt that if you re going to tell the story of somebody who is not quite engaged in life, it is very good to put that person in an environment where there s so much life around. 

 The parts of the movie that weren t shot in New York were filmed in Iceland, and the extraordinary adventures Mitty has include some impressive stunts and special effects.



 Fox film chief Jim Gianopulos told THR that after a summer that saw a number of big-budget movies struggle at the box office, he and his colleagues realized the importance of having strong, character-driven stories like this one beneath stunning visuals.

 I think what we learned is you can t just throw effects at the screen and hope it works. Sometimes they augment it and enhance a film, but ultimately, you have to have the underlying quality and story to make it work, he said.

 Gianopulos, who s solely helmed Fox s film division since co-chairman Tom Rothman exited last year, also dismissed the recent wave of executive changes at the major studios, saying those shifts were merely coincidental.

 He also refused to talk about rumors that former Warner Bros. film chief Jeff Robinov might wind up at Fox, saying simply, I don t know what Jeff is going to do. I m sure he ll find someplace where he ll be very happy. 

 Fans of Stiller s meanwhile, would likely be happy to see a sequel to his beloved 2001 film Zoolander, a project that s long been reported to be in the works.

 Cornfeld and Stiller both said they had a great script for it but indicated that there may be other factors delaying the project.

 When THR asked Cornfeld, who produced the original film and is set to produce the sequel, whether we d see a Zoolander 2, he rolled his eyes and said, It s not in my hands. 

 Stiller, meanwhile, said: Possibly. I do think that if I wait much longer, it will have to take place in a senior citizens home. But, we ll see.</html>

== Is Danny Dyer Right For Eastenders- ==

<html>With Danny Dyer coming into Walford as new Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter, the mockney archetype has sparked a lot of opinion from various forum sites and social media. The votes seem to be split 50/50 with some expressing their love for his working-class nature and the rest dubbing him Danny Dire . To be fair, he has previously been criticized to limiting himself to the same cockney role in TV shows such as Skins or films like The Football Factory. However, this may work in his favour –?he certainly won t be out of his depth as he will be playing the same role he has become famous for The working-class cockney, with a different angle from the writers of the successful soap of course.

The criticism of Dyer leading quite a narrow career in terms of acting roles overall, could be seen as irrelevant –?Eastenders is full of cockney geezers and therefore he would stick out like a sore thumb if he didn t fulfill his role. The job should allow him to relax into the role even more and he can express and change his character freely, in contrast to his film roles that limit him to around 120 minutes.

Therefore, Dyer will be able to show how wide his talents can stretch as he is placed into various situations in the Square. This means ?he will have to adapt to more than just the out-of-his-depth lad with something to prove as we have seen in Football Factory and The Business. It will also be interesting to see if Eastenders brings out a more sensitive side to him, as the writers seem to try and bring even the hardest men on the square to shed a tear or two – for example,[http://metrorailindia.com/nba-jerseys.html <strong>cheap nba basketball jerseys</strong>],?the Mitchell brothers. So with this in mind, don t be surprised to see Danny having more to cry about than the West Ham score.

Thus, it will be interesting to see how he copes being top of the food chain as the pub landlord. Linda Henry (Shirley) is another advantage to Danny –?having previously worked with her on The Business their on-screen chemistry would have already started and with Linda an intimidating character in Walford, could Danny slot into his usual role and play as her right-hand man?

Of the previous landlords you have the likes of Dirty Den, Phil Mitchell and Archie Mitchell which in fairness, are a pretty tough bunch and when compared, you would argue that Danny Dyer doesn t live up to them. On the other hand you have Steve Owen s Ricky and the current lovable landlord Alfie Moon. In my opinion, Danny comes under this category, the cheeky bartender who s only really firm when they need to be. The first three seemed to have a darker side to them but Alfie and Ricky were presented so you couldn t help but love them.

Danny s nature seems like it is impossible to add a darker side to him. He seems genuine and he just doesn t have that look about him, although with the soap s writers, you can t rule this out. However, fans of the show could argue that Danny is a bit of a replica of the soap veteran Billy Mitchell and in all honesty, they may be right. Billy has been seen to try and live up to the family name and assert himself but all too often he comes across as a wimp –?a lovable wimp, but a wimp nonetheless.

As aforementioned, Danny has played the role of the mentor s partner, rarely having to do any dirty work. Some may remember the scene in Football Factory where he is tricked into having to apologize to Billy Bright. Dyer s character Tommy completely cracks into an emotional breakdown, it will be interesting to see him in the frequent conflict that the Mitchell family come under. Having said that, this may be a clever ploy by the writers bringing Danny in with a similar personality, suggesting that there s still a bit of Mitchell in the pub.

All in all I feel Dyer will be portrayed as the same cheeky cockney that he has become famous for,[http://www.hytx.net.cn/Review.asp?NewsID=3209 <span style="font-weight: bold">White joins Super Rugby's Sharks</span>], which although seems very samey , he s still likely to be dragged into trouble by his sister Shirley.
