Around these parts, Fridays mean it’s time once again for our biweekly waiver wire updates in fantasy baseball. This time we’re checking out the SP and RP candidates out there. The good news is that there’s no shortage of available talent, as MLB teams test-drive their younger arms in the waning days of the season. Let’s examine a few of the popular names out there and see who’s trending.
Ubaldo Jimenez, SP, Cleveland Indians: Jimenez is probably the hottest SP name on the waiver wire right now, and it’s pretty easy to see why. In his last two starts, he’s got two wins, posting no earned runs and 14 strikeouts through 13 innings in that span. As a matter of fact, Jimenez hasn’t given up more than three earned over his last nine starts. Pretty decent for a potential waiver wire name. He’ll face the White Sox tomorrow.
Michael Wacha, SP, St. Louis Cardinals: Closely behind Jimenez as a waiver wire trend is Wacha, who is tearing up the trends thanks to his last two outings. Gerrit Cole, SP, Pittsburgh Pirates: Cole has experienced a bumpy road this season, with spots of bliss and failure. He’s trending upward at the moment, however, so you should jump on the train now if you’re thinking about it. Over his last two starts, Cole has given up a combined two earned runs and struck out 14. If you’re going to use him, this is the start to do it.
Esmil Rogers, SP, Toronto Blue Jays: If you look at his season-long numbers, Rogers is something of a mixed bag. He’s got a 5-7 record and a 4.46 ERA, marks which don’t exactly promote confidence. Still, his most recent pair of starts have been good, with a 2-0 record and no earned on a combined four hits. Ziegler is one such name, and he’s got a save in each of his last three appearances.  The payout works out at roughly 1m for every 1bn wiped off Nokia's market value under Elop's leadership. Microsoft is paying 70% of the payoff, which works out at roughly the same as the controversial share bonuses.

 Nokia paid Elop a $6m signing-on bonus when he joined the company in 2010 on top of his $1.4m salary.

The Cameroonian, also was UST’s runaway best player this year. Coach Pido was hanging on his coattails for the most part of the season with some of his key players wounded. Whoever wins this match-up can determine who barges into the finals.

Sneaky key player on offense: John Sheriff (Pempengco!). Sneaky key player on D: of course it’s Kevin Ferrer. We all know that he’ll be on BRPJ’s grill so much that it’s possible that they may exchange faces. Oh you don’t want that to happen Ray Ray!

PREDICTION

Wait for it…wait for it more…take a bathroom break first if you need to….

That may have gone for your face like a bouncing American football. But for fans and analysts that put Yokozuna-weight on UST’s experience and NU’s lack thereof; that prediction should come from right field (if there’s such a thing). <html>During the Lakers 2002 championship campaign, they had to go through the Sacramento Kings in the Western Conference Finals before they were able to finish off their three-peat with a sweep over the New Jersey Nets. Eric Altamirano’s shocktroopers were the biggest factor to their leap this year. I’ve never seen BRPJ play this bad in his career.” And the collective growth of Alolino, Rono, Khobuntin, Villamor, Javillonar, Neypes, etc., bucked the dimming of their superstar.



Key match-up: Jean Mbe vs. Karim Abdul. Mbe was quietly NU’s best player the whole season. And he needed to be considering Parks was just decent. There wasn’t a super improvement in his game this year; it was just that he had more touches. Mbe goes against an equally strong force down low in Karim Abdul. The Cameroonian, also was UST’s runaway best player this year. Coach Pido was hanging on his coattails for the most part of the season with some of his key players wounded. Whoever wins this match-up can determine who barges into the finals.

Sneaky key player on offense: John Sheriff (Pempengco!). With a smart, pass-first point guard, the Tigers’ core have been put back to their old “I don’t need to think of playmaking” mode and they somehow look similar compared to last year, when Fortuna was running the point.



DEFENSE

The NU Bulldogs was the runaway best defensive team in the second round as they only allowed their foes to drop 60.57 ppg. It’s obvious that these Bulldogs are bending their butts lower and moving their feet side-to-side faster. That’s the mark of a team that really wants to be a part of conversations until the end.

UST on the other hand, was a so-so defensive team in the second round. They allowed four opponents to score 65 or more on them. If they want to get a return ticket to the finals, they would have to play with more intensity on D.

Key defensive player: Bobby Ray Parks Jr. Being fully acclimated to the small forward/stretch four role this season, Parks Jr. has had to guard threes and fours all season long. He has his work cut out for him against Ferrer and Mariano.

Sneaky key player on D: of course it’s Kevin Ferrer. We all know that he’ll be on BRPJ’s grill so much that it’s possible that they may exchange faces. Oh you don’t want that to happen Ray Ray!

PREDICTION

Wait for it…wait for it more…take a bathroom break first if you need to….

UST in 2!

That may have gone for your face like a bouncing American football. But for fans and analysts that put Yokozuna-weight on UST’s experience and NU’s lack thereof; that prediction should come from right field (if there’s such a thing). If you were bored enough to listen to our preseason predictions episode on SLAMRadioPh, you would know that I said “I’m picking UST to be a LOCK at number one after the eliminations.” And you know what happened. Their bench looked like a charity ward with all the injured players but they were able to survive that. Now that their core is back, I firmly believe that they will go into foxhole mode and outwit the Bulldogs.

  This new technique was developed by lead author of the Florida State study, Weiwei Men of East China Normal University s Department of Physics. Using this technique, Men measured and color-coded the various thicknesses of subdivisions of the corpus callosum along its length, where nerves cross from one side of the brain to the other. The different thicknesses are indicators of the number of nerves that cross between the two hemispheres of the brain and thus how connected the two cerebral halves are in particular regions.
  Different regions of the brain facilitate different functions, dependent on where bunches of fibers cross from one side to the other. Hand movement, for example, is governed by connections near the front while mental arithmetic is facilitated by brain connections along the back.
