JD Salinger was one of the world's most famous recluses. The shorthand is this: after rising to fame for Catcher in the Rye, and a few gruesome murders tied to the book, Salinger locked himself away from years until his death. But this is what we always hear.
Don't get me wrong: I was excited by the prospect of a Muckraking Documentary By The Weinstein Company, but upon viewing the trailer I was quickly disgusted. It looks like some cheap CBS special. ?All these people labeling Salinger off as a one-trick pony, hailing Catcher in the Rye but eschewing the other more illustrious range of his work, not to mention when all these people from Salinger's life--supposedly intimate friends and compatriots--come forward to eviscerate his character like vultures licking an antelope's carcass on the side of the road for a cheap buck. Classy.
Salerno's documentary does not take the enlightened path for the enlightened man Salinger was.  EVIAN-LES-BAINS, France Suzann Pettersen barely had time to hug her caddie before the Champagne started flowing in her direction.
In the first women's major played in Europe, Pettersen beat teenage star Lydia Ko of New Zealand by two shots to win the Evian Championship on Sunday and clinch the second major title of her career.
The Norwegian calmly rolled in her par putt to seal the title. Pettersen then leaned back and held her head in her hands, hugged her caddie and laughed as she was surrounded by friends spraying her with Champagne on the green.

American Lexi Thompson shot a 68 to finish four shots back in third place, with South Koreans So Yeon Ryu and Se Ri Pak five shots behind in a tie for fourth.
This was the first year that Evian counted as the fifth and final major of the year on the women's calendar.
"I don't know if it's quite sunk in yet that I've won another major. It's been a while, but I'm pretty lucky to say that I've won two," Pettersen said. "Hopefully, this is just the start. It's been such a great month, five weeks for me, starting off with the Solheim (Cup). It was a great kick-start for what became the best month of my career."
The third-ranked Pettersen plans to have "one heck of a party" to celebrate, before focusing on her goal to earn the No. 1 ranking.

"She's such a great competitor. She keeps us on our toes," the 32-year-old Pettersen said. "She's 16 and she's good enough to win tournaments, to win major championships. She's a future star for this game."
She'll have to wait until next year for a chance to break American Morgan Pressel's record of youngest major winner. Pressel was 18 years, 10 months, 9 days when she won the Kraft Nabisco Championship in 2007.

When play got started, Ko opened her round with a birdie while Pettersen had birdies on the second and third holes. Pettersen bogeyed the seventh when she over-hit her approach shot.
She recovered with a birdie on the next hole and led Ko by one shot and Ryu by two after the front nine.
Ko looked stern-faced after missing a chance to move level on the 12th, and Pettersen shook her head in disbelief as her second shot on 13th drifted wide into the choppy rough. But she ended up saving a tricky par while Ko had to settle for bogey, leaving her two shots ahead.
Ko looked downbeat when she missed another birdie chance on 17.
"I didn't feel confident with my putting today. == Republicans Not Sold on Boehner's Debt ==

<html>Speaker John Boehner attempted Thursday morning to sell House Republicans on a debt-ceiling plan that would delay the implementation of Obamacare, jumpstart the Keystone Pipeline, and introduce other conservative reforms in hopes of uniting the GOP conference ahead of tough votes on the continuing resolution and debt-ceiling.
But reaction from members was mixed, at best.
"We shouldn't even be talking about the debt-ceiling until we get [the Senate] to vote on a good CR for America," fumed Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas, who plans to vote against the debt-ceiling bill when it hits the floor, which could happen as soon as Friday.
Rep. Mo Brooks of Alabama said he was undecided on the debt-limit package, even though "it definitely has a lot of goodies in it." Brooks added: "It does not cut spending and does not solve the problem."

Brady said of a potential floor vote Friday: "There should be more than 218."
The prospect of a quick floor vote, however, did not sit well with undecided Republicans like Rep. Jim Bridenstine of Oklahoma. "I'm looking forward to seeing what leadership puts on the table," he said. "I think there's a lot more to be discussed."
Rep. Randy Weber of Texas agreed: "I have decided not take a position as of yet," he said. "I want to hear more."
Meanwhile, conservative leaders wouldn't bite when asked whether the debt-ceiling proposal has the votes to pass.
"You must confuse me with the whip," said a smiling Rep. Jeb Hensarling of Texas. Pressed to analyze the support within his conference for Boehner's plan, Hensarling repeated three times: "I expect Republicans to be united."
Even Rep. Steve Scalise, chairman of the Republican Study Committee, seemed uncertain of whether Boehner's presentation had won over a sufficient number of conservatives. "We're going to find out," he said. "You'll have to ask the whip."
