He contrasted that with a 'date rape', where a woman 'voluntarily goes to her boyfriend's apartment, voluntarily goes into the bedroom, voluntarily undresses and gets into bed, perhaps anticipating sex, or naively expecting merely a cuddle.<br>
'But at the last minute she gets cold feet and says 'Stop!'. The young man, in the heat of the moment, is unable to restrain himself and carries on,' he added.<br>'In both cases an offence has been committed, and the perpetrators deserve to be convicted and punished.<br>
'But whereas in the first case, I'd again be quite happy to hang the guy, I think that most right-thinking people would expect a much lighter sentence in the second case. Rape is always wrong, but not always equally culpable.'<br>

London hotel for eight hours.
But his revenge for being rejected

Sylvestre threw a cup of industrial-strength sulphuric acid in 
her face. 

The
attack on a London street melted her face, blinded her in one eye and 
left her with horrific burns. <br>
Rushed to the burns unit of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Katie 
was showered with tap water for ten hours as medics fought to neutralise
the effect of the acid on her skin and prevent further damage. <br>
Eye 
drops were also administered every few minutes to try to wash the acid 
away. <br>

But her injuries were unimaginable. The left side of Katie's face was
burned away to the fat layer - the only thing beyond it was muscle 
and bone.
She lost the sight in her left eye and acid also dripped

For more than a year she had to be fed through a tube in her
