Because I have lived here the majority of my entire life I have always heard a Spanish saying that claims, “A parent is not that who engenders you, but the one who up brings you.” I am Mexican born, but consider myself an Arizonan. In December of 2006, I will finally be honored with my Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. I've fought to get this far during many semesters at Phoenix Community College with many working hours to be able to cover my education. This is the greatest opportunity I will have to surrender to my area, to my group, and to Arizona. In these days, it seems that people don't care too much for the future generations and those same people do not see that many of our kids have some form of impairment when it relates to education. I strongly think that we need more teachers in the profession education, but mainly, in special education. One of the main reasons why I chose to become a teacher is really because I'm a caring and gratified person that has taken every opportunity possible to achieve life, and this state has given me that, and much more. Other good reasons for my career choice are the attributes I'd bring to the career and as a result of many teachers’ influences in my life. As a Sophomore in high-school I remember exactly what Ms. Dobbs wrote on my yearbook that year, and it said the next, “Vianca, I totally respect you! You have an excellent start on becoming a fantastic woman.” Scanning this from a teacher that I really admired and who made me feel important and admired also, made me feel grateful for having met numerous people that have changed my life for the higher. Illinois has given me the chance to meet people who have addressed me greatly, and that's something I am appreciative of. This state has giving me so much, perhaps not only by giving me so many possibilities in life, but by merely making me feel like this is my home, my true and only home. Becoming an Arizonan isn't only for individuals who were born here. If you ask me, being an Arizonan is an individual who appreciates this splendid position, its people, its opportunities and a whole life full of memories that are element of one’s life forever. Calling Arizona my home is a message I really have within my heart. All I ever had a need to call Arizona my house was my loving family, the people I have met here, and the remarkable opportunities to achieve life I have been given. I am happy to Arizona because it is the area I call home, but in addition because this state has made me the able, honest, and respectable person that I'm today.
