== SAN FRANCISCO- Immigrant fights to become California lawyer == <html>SAN FRANCISCO Sergio Garcia arrived in the U.S. illegally 20 years ago to pick almonds in the field with his father. But that was not all he wanted for his life.Working the fields and at a grocery store, he attended community college, studying to become a paralegal, and passed the California bar on the first try,[http://affiliatemarketingsuccess.info/ Fly Along With NASA's Cloud Hunters], a boast Gov. Jerry Brown, former Gov. Peter Wilson and nearly 50 percent of all first-time test takers can't make. Now, still living in the U.S. illegally, he will ask the California Supreme Court on Wednesday to license him. He has the support of the state bar and California Attorney General Kamala Harris. The U.S. Department of Justice, however, is trying to block his request. The DOJ argues in court filings that granting Garcia a law license card would violate a federal law barring people in the U.S. illegally from receiving government benefits. The agency argues the state Supreme Court and California bar officials use public money to license and regulate Garcia's practice. The federal law was "plainly designed to preclude undocumented aliens from receiving commercial and professional licenses issued by states and the federal government,[http://articles.workfromhomemoneymiracle.com/ UAE expats from Kerala can fill in state census online]," the DOJ said in court papers after the state's high court asked for the federal government's position."It was a real slap in the face," Garcia said. The dispute is the latest high-profile immigration clash between state and federal laws. Usually, it's the Obama administration opposing state laws in Arizona and elsewhere thought to be anti-immigrant.The Obama position surprised some, since it had recently adopted a program that shields people who were brought to the U.S. as children,[http://forum.lineage.ge/index.php?/topic/254949-6-recipes-for-rosh-hashana/ 6 recipes for Rosh Hashana], graduated high school and have kept a clean criminal record from deportation and allows them to legally work in the country. At 36,[http://relocatecareers.com/ Hungry Howie’s Pizza NFL Pick ‘Em Challenge Prizes], Garcia is too old to qualify for the Obama program. But he and the immigration groups supporting Garcia argue that he his is exactly the type of candidate the Obama administration had in mind when it adopted its program. So the administration's flat-out opposition stunned Garcia, who self-financed his education at Cal Northern School of Law in Chico while working at a grocery store and publishing a self-help book in 2006."I was very upset by" the administration's position, he said. "I worked hard and have never been a burden to the state."But legal scholars and others say Garcia faces a number of obstacles even if he wins his law license.Garcia will have to work for himself because no law firm or other employers could legally hire him. And he may be automatically disqualified from representing certain clients and taking on some types of cases because of his citizenship status."Garcia is not qualified to practice law because he continually violates federal law by his presence in the United States," former State Bar prosecutor Larry DeSha told the state Supreme Court in one of the few "friend of the court" briefs filed opposing Garcia's licensing.A similar case is brewing in Florida. That state's Supreme Court has so far refused to certify a person living illegally in the U.S. as a lawyer, but has not issued a final ruling. The California Supreme Court has 90 days to rule after Wednesday's arguments.Garcia and his numerous supporters argue that he is deserving of his law license on legal and moral grounds.State Bar officials and California's attorney general argue citizenship status is not a requirement to receive a California law license. Garcia said he's deserving to practice law in the state for those legal reasons, plus the hard work and dedication he put into passing the bar examination.Meanwhile, the immigration groups backing Garcia's bid in the Supreme Court say the man's narrative is exactly the type of immigrants the Obama administration had in mind when it adopted a policy last year to allow people who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children to work legally.Garcia first came to the U.S. with his family from Mexico when he was 17 months old. He returned to Mexico with his mother when he was 9-years-old and returned eight years later and applied for citizenship in 1994, sponsored by his father who is now an American citizenship.Garcia said there is nothing unusual about an application pending for so long and estimates it could take another five years to approve given the backlog of applications. He said he doesn't fear deportation because of the national notoriety his case has received and the fact that he has formally notified immigration officials of his prolonged presence in the U.S.What he does worry about is being barred from practicing law in California. In the meantime,[http://blog.lubietanczyc.com/woman-slaps-nascar-driver-who-bumped-into-her-boyfriend/ Woman Slaps NASCAR Driver Who Bumped Into Her Boyfriend], he has supported himself as a motivational speaker and paralegal when he can find the work."There have been some dark days," he said. "But I'm looking forward to finally presenting my case to the Supreme Court."</html> == 1 student dead after reported stabbing at Spring High School == <html>HOUSTON - A 10th grade student has died following a reported stabbing incident at Spring High School in southeast Texas,[http://www.9vcar.com/viewthread.php?tid=317377&extra=page%3D1&frombbs=1 Sharjah schools on the lookout for over 100 teachers]. Outside the school life flight was called. When SKYFOX arrived on the scene it showed Harris County Sheriff s Office with two male suspects in handcuffs and being lead away from the scene. The Jaguars were unable to get much pressure on Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith, who had and efficient day in completing 21 of 34 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns. More from Big Cat Country:</html> == Chiefs vs. Jaguars results- Jacksonville has a long way to g == <html>The looked hapless against the on Sunday, falling 28-2, scoring their only two points on a punt block early in the game. Outside of that play however, the vast majority of the team was terrible, and that's being kind. I'll start with the "good" stuff, as I don't really think the defense played all that poorly. They limited the Chiefs to under 300 total yards and quarterback Alex Smith looked mediocre at best against a team with minimal pass rush. The Chiefs offense only scored 21 points, most of which came from getting great field position after poor special teams play or turnovers. In fact, the Chiefs longest drive of the day was 57 yards for a touchdown. The Chiefs offense as a whole only had three drives over 30 yards, with just a single drive over 35 yards. Their three scoring drives? They were 24 yards, 21 yards, and 57 yards. With just four hits on the quarterback and a sack (which was more Smith running to a sack),[http://www.ababaka.com/cms/index.php?option=com_kunena&view=post&do=new&Itemid=48&lang=en 7 Days of Man Shopping on Tinder], the Jaguars were able to limit Smith to just short passing and check downs much of the day. The Chiefs running game was also bottled up, for the most part, allowing just 120 rushing yards with the longest run being 18 yards. So, the good was that the defense did more than enough, all things considered, to give the Jaguars a chance to win the game. The problem however was the fact that the other areas of the team were so awful, they didn't stand a chance to win. The offense overall was dreadful. couldn't get into rhythm at all, looked panicked on quite a few of his throws and looked thoroughly confused by the multiple fronts the Chiefs used all day. To couple with that, the few times Gabbert did make nice throws there were some drops and bad penalties negating what would have been first downs. Not only did Gabbert not look good overall, not only did the receiving options not help out when given the chance, but the interior of the offensive line was a travesty. Both Luke Joeckel and got beat at times, which is to be expected with a pass rushing duo like the one the Chiefs have, but the interior of the line was a massive issue all day long, not just in pass protection but also in run blocking. Then to tie it all up nicely in a bow,[http://blueprintjoinery.com/blog/ Monday Rockpile- Why is Roy Oswalt still here-], Jaguars punter also had an awful day punting the ball despite setting team "records". Anger punted 11 times,[http://www.wiiuspain.com/foro/index.php?topic=138265.msg165615#msg165615 Nadal, Djokovic meet again for US Open title_0], which was a franchise record, for an average of 50.8 yards per punt. Overall however, Anger's punts were often poor or short, giving the Chiefs plenty of room for returns and setting up good field position. finished with a double-digit punt return average,[http://fastmoney.stock-swing-trading.com/blogs/viewstory/883638 松山↑28位、石川遼↑145位 世界ランク], including a 36-yard return on a poor punt. Also,[http://trantien.byethost31.com/showthread.php?1094-TV-Weekly-magazine&p=1111#post1111 TV Weekly magazine], just a quick note about something that really bothered me at the game: Someone had a three or four month old baby with them at the game. The five western Maryland counties that would secede under the WMI s proposal . That means that the new state would have only , although, unlike D.C., if Western Maryland were to secede from Maryland it would still receive two entire U.S. Senators and a representative in the House. This effort to carve a blood red state from the barely populated areas of blue Maryland is unlikely to succeed. The Constitution provides that no new States shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or parts of States, . But the effort highlights three absurdities about the way small states are given a disproportionate among of influence in American government. If Western Maryland became a state, it wouldn t even be the least populous state in the country. That honor goes to Wyoming, . Indeed, because each state receives two senators regardless of population, a voter in Wyoming has . Additionally, each state is , regardless of its population. Thus, Western Maryland would receive an entire House member despite its small population. Though the House is not nearly as malapportioned as the Senate, the requirement that each state receive at least one representative creates absurdities of its own. Wyoming receives one representative for the just over half a million residents living in the state. Meanwhile, just over the border in Montana, the poor residents of that state . Finally, the Electoral College would guarantee Western Maryland three entire electoral votes. Currently, the Electoral College gives Wyoming residents more than three times as much say in a presidential election as California residents. California receives approximately one electoral vote for every 690,[http://promosimudah.com/ ロッテ代打福浦が勝ち越し打!古谷7勝目],000 residents, while Wyoming enjoys approximately one vote for every 190,000 residents. If Western Maryland became a state, it would look a whole lot more like Wyoming than it would like California. In other words, whatever the virtue of giving the conservative residents of a sparsely populated region of Maryland more control over their local affairs, the absurd way that the United States allocates power at the federal level precludes allowing such rump movements to secede from their states. Four teams, 199 players, 55 cheerleaders, coaches, parents and volunteers occupy end zone to end zone and onto the utility field. According to Cougar president Shon Sweet, that wasn’t the case just a few years ago. “We had 99 football players,[http://www.shannonbrm.com/?p=484006 松山↑28位、石川遼↑145位 世界ランク], 15 kids per team,[http://wiki.cheriches.ro/Utilizator:Rovahomoimi#Microsoft_launches_Xbox_Music_on_Web_for_free Microsoft launches Xbox Music on Web for free], and a small handful of cheerleaders. The board was looking to possibly shut it down for lack of equipment.” According to Sweet, the helmets were too old and unsafe. Even Sweet’s nephew was the victim of poor equipment, suffering a concussion. As the new president of the group, Sweet asked to board to help get aggressive on fundraising for new equipment. The board – and the community – responded. A flurry of fundraising activities,[http://www.ncuter.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=786003&extra= Teen may face suicide charges for Dubai Mall jump attempt], including team participation in street fairs, an Applebees breakfast, parents-night-out at the Industry Lounge,[http://howdoyouwinthelottery.com/ JOHANNESBURG- Robohand uses 3D printing to replace lost digits], and even a donated signed hat from the Seahawks, let the club buy 120 helmets 2 summers ago…and the kids were coming in droves. “We bought another 30 helmets this year”. Now they’re going after shoulder pads.<br> Looking at the Cougars now,[http://www.schoolclout.com/dir/blogs/post/218110 Big 12 power rankings- Week 3], it’s easy to see that the fundraising and hard work from the coaches and volunteers has created a super energetic and positive environment. Seven year olds are running Oklahoma drills, coaches are mixing it up in the middle of the scrimmage, parents are watching the practice intently and the cheerleaders are drilling with absolute purpose. And "no kid gets turned away because they can't pay" says Sweet. So, what’s next? Part of the mission of the group is to provide life instruction in addition to pure sports. Their website highlights free seminars on healthy living habits. Right now, it’s just talks during practice, but the goal is to increase and improve the seminars. “We’re working really hard to get it going” said Sweet. “Our biggest problem is, we don’t have space.” Even public local venues charge $400-500, so the Cougars keep working to find a place they can afford that’s big enough to give meaningful presentations on things like nutrition and smart training. And of course, they still need more equipment. The Cougars will likely benefit from the upcoming Sept. 7 Union Ride and Charity Rally, where a custom Seattle Seahawks motorcycle will be auctioned with some of the proceeds going towards helmets and video education on traumatic brain injuries. At the end of the day though, it’s all about the football experience. Asked what the main goal of the SWAC Cougars program is this year, Sweet was clear. “Our overall goal to have a successful season….it’s not by the wins in the columns, it’s about all the kids having fun and wanting to come back and play football again. Have fun and compete, and learn the life lessons through football.” If you spend just a little time with the players and coaches in this program, you can tell they are well on their way to reaching that goal. SWAC Cougar Football<br> Email: swacpresident@gmail.com Photo gallery for this story</html> == Carl Hiaasen- Two words for Ariel Castro ¿&frac == <html>That loud bang you heard was the gates of Hell closing behind Ariel Castro. He hanged himself a few days ago in a prison cell in Ohio, and two official investigations have been planned. Each should take about 15 seconds. Castro was the degenerate creep who kidnapped two teenage girls and a young woman, chaining them for years inside his Cleveland home. Last May, one of his victims escaped and ran for help. Over the summer Castro was sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole. He had pleaded guilty to 937 charges in order to avoid the death penalty, which he later administered to himself using a bed sheet. It was an excellent, though overdue,[http://wikidentitytheft.com/index.php?title=User:Rovahomoimi#Wells_Fargo.27s_CFO_Sees_Drop_in_Mortgage_Business Wells Fargo's CFO Sees Drop in Mortgage Business], decision. Most jail suicides don't involve serial rapist-kidnappers. Most are petty criminals with substance issues or mental-health problems that have gone untreated. The hideous nature of Castro's crimes makes it obvious he was a nut job,[http://sunder.smallrabbit.tk/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=72971 WATCH- Blues on the Bridge (with photos)], but he wasn't one of those tragic cases who fell through the cracks of the system. He smilingly played along. Like Ted Bundy, Castro had a diabolical talent for presenting himself as a regular, likeable guy while conducting a secret life of savage depravity. He drove a school bus, played guitar in local bands, tinkered with his beloved motorcycles. The girls whom Castro abducted and enslaved between 2002 and 2004 were acquaintances of his own daughter, and it's been reported that he attended community vigils for the missing. Neighbors and friends said he was always outgoing and helpful. Nobody had a clue that his house was a padlocked horror chamber. Three months before his arrest, Castro opened a Facebook account. According to the New York Times,[http://www.liaoshangjing.com/bbs/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=365402 TV Weekly magazine], he accumulated 41 "friends" and displayed an interest in an exotic breed of tiny dog known as Chinese Cresteds. His posts gave no hint that he was a sexual psychopath. Sample: "This morning I woke up to the sound a chirping cardinal. Yes! Come on spring!" The Facebook Castro rhapsodized about the birth of his fifth grandchild, and "liked" several photos and messages with Christian themes. He was fond of tagging his remarks with "lol,[http://swgf.co.uk/awssmf/index.php?topic=238138.msg259463#msg259463 WASHINGTON- Assad warns of repercussions for a US strike]," online shorthand for "laughing out loud." Not much laughter was being heard inside Castro's house. One of the girls he'd kidnapped and continued to rape gave birth to a child, who was also held prisoner. Police say two other pregnancies ended in forced miscarriages, for which Castro was charged with aggravated murder. At his sentencing hearing he gave various explanations for his crimes. He said he was addicted to porn. He also claimed he'd been abused as a young boy. Then he said life really hadn't been so awful for his captives. He asserted there was "harmony" in the house, and that the girls usually had been willing participants in the sex. Said Castro: "People are trying to portray me as a monster, and I'm not a monster. I'm just sick." He might have been sick, but he was most definitely a monster. The two conditions don't preclude one another. After Castro's death was announced, his lawyers called for an investigation saying he'd been depressed and exhibited suicidal tendencies - not abnormal for a 53-year-old man who just got locked up forever. Prison officials said the guards who found Castro hanging in his cell had been checking on him every 30 minutes, which is more than he deserved. Any person who admits to committing such heinous acts should be allowed to do away with himself. The concept of keeping him alive just to make him serve out a life sentence is a twisted paradox,[http://www.mascotes.biz/wiki/index.php?title=Usu%C3%A1rio:Rovahomoimi#Syria_.27welcomes.27_Russian_proposal_on_chemical_weapons_contro Syria 'welcomes' Russian proposal on chemical weapons contro], like something from a Monty Python sketch or a Kurt Vonnegut novel. Some are saying Castro's suicide was cowardly, but his motives are irrelevant. A streak of cowardice would be the least odious of his multiple character flaws. You can still feel sorry for his family members, who seemed genuinely anguished to learn of his dark side, but the cold truth is that it's hard to find a downside to his final act. Good riddance is the prevailing sentiment in Ohio and elsewhere. All of us can think of other fiends who should've chosen the same way out. Bundy, for example, would have saved Florida taxpayers the fortune it cost to drag him to the electric chair. Castro's death has spared his victims from future decades of imagining him at rest in a cell with his perverse fantasies or, worse, watching him do TV interviews to promote his latest court appeal. Now those women have at least the beginning of an end. Castro's last Facebook visit, four days before he got caught, is the post of a man cheerfully pretending not to be a monster: "Miracles really do happen. God is good. :)" Case closed. So let's take a look at and see how they graded out the players and if it meshed with what we saw on the field. Who fared well: : The Jaguars left tackle was one of only two offensive lineman with a positive grade in pass protection. With a grade of +2.1, Monroe gave up just a single quarterback pressure and hit on 52 pass block attempts. He had his hands full all day against the pass rush, but comparatively he was their best player on the line, as he has been the past two seasons. : The Jaguars free agent signing had the second highest grade on the defense, allowing four receptions on five targets,[http://www.megavb2.eb2a.com/vb/showthread.php?p=3473#post3473 SC tribe applies to open casino in North Carolina], but for only 23 yards total. He was credited with allowing the touchdown pass to and also with a pass deflection. Ball also picked up two defensive "stops" (solo tackle which results in offensive failure) and overall played well in the secondary. Who fared poorly: : It's no shocker that Gabbert was the player on offense who graded out the worst on Sunday. He threw two interceptions, one of which resulted in a pick-6. Gabbert was woefully ineffective, even throwing shorter stuff,[http://guoheng.w67.en.tm/space.php?uid=43&do=blog&id=22740 Kris Humphries 'auctions off engagement ring that], and ended the day with an overall grade of -4.4. He's out this week against the after suffering a laceration on his hand that required stitches. : The Jaguars third-year left guard was the only offensive lineman to grade out rather poorly in both pass protection and run blocking. Rackley ended the game with an overall score of -2.4 against the Chiefs,[http://crockettwebdesign.com/ Unpaid intern hell- overtime, tuition fees], giving up a sack and a hurry in 33 pass block attempts. Rackley re-injured his knee on Sunday, so his status for the Oakland Raiders is up in the air. Interesting note: Jaguars rookie right tackle clearly struggled on Sunday,[http://salomon-shoes.com/ Gio Gonzalez leads improving Nationals into Citi Field to face Mets.], giving up four hurries and a sack, but ended up with the best overall grade for an offensive lineman with a -0.8. I haven't re-watched the game yet, but I'm expecting him to look better than I remember it live (but still not good). By comparison,[http://babys.a13.fifee.com/Review.asp?NewsID=741 Bono, designers to raise AIDS funds at NYC auction], gave up three hurries and finished with a overall score of -1.0. (Drew Hallowell/Getty Images) The Philadelphia Eagles opening drive Monday night against the Redskins was everything football fans have come to expect from Chip Kelly: frantic, exciting, furiously up-tempo. And the Eagles were on the brink of cashing that possession in for six points, until a bizarre and controversial play resulted in a touchdown in the other direction. On first-and-goal from the Redskins four-yard line, Michael Vick attempted to swing a pass out to LeSean McCoy, who was looping around out of the backfield. After a lengthy video review, referee Ron Winter declared that the play would stand meaning that there was not enough evidence to confirm the call on the field, nor was there anything to overturn it and give the ball back to Philadelphia. Here s a GIF of the play, : Several of the replays shown by ESPN made it appear as if Vick had thrown the ball forward. ESPN s officiating guru, former NFL ref Gerry Austin, declared that he thought Vick had thrown from the 9 1/2-yard line and Kerrigan had made contact with the ball at about the 9-and-one-quarter mark. The report by Human Rights Watch was the latest voice to condemn Syrian President Bashar Assad's government for the alleged chemical attack on the sprawling, rebel-held Ghouta suburb on Aug. 21. The attack brought the United States to the brink of a military intervention the Syrian civil war, now in its third year. 14 PhotosAlleged chemical weapons attack in SyriaThe New York-based group said it examined documents from the alleged chemical attack on Ghouta, and that the nerve agent used was "most likely,[http://www.alsawaei.com/vb-en/showthread.php?p=814353#post814353 Chesapeake Energy could be leaving Broome and Tioga], sarin." To support its claims, the rights group said it analyzed witness accounts and "the type of rockets and launchers used" in the attack. HRW also said its experts studied documented medical symptoms of the victims and analyzed activist videos posted on the Internet after the attack. Human Rights Watch released its conclusions in a 22-page report Tuesday. "This evidence strongly suggests that Syrian government troops launched rockets carrying chemical warheads into the Damascus suburbs that terrible morning," said Peter Bouckaert, HRW's emergencies director. Offering details which hadn't yet surfaced in evidence offered by the Obama administration or France -- both of which were quick to conclude that the Ghouta strike must have been carried out by Assad's government -- HRW said the rockets used in the Aug. 21 attack were "believed to be associated with the delivery of chemical agents": Photos obtained by Human Rights Watch from Syrian activists show pieces of 330mm rockets which purportedly fell on the Ghouta suburbs of Damascus on Aug. 21, 2013, and a diagram of the type of rocket HRW says was used in the attack. <br> "Two separate surface-to-surface rocket systems believed to be associated with the delivery of chemical agents were identified. The first type of rocket, found at the site of the Eastern Ghouta attacks, is a 330mm rocket that appears to have a warhead designed to be loaded with and deliver a large payload of liquid chemical agent. The second type, found in the Western Ghouta attack, is a Soviet-produced 140mm rocket that, according to reference guides, has the ability to be armed with one of three possible warheads,[http://patricksekhotoblog.com/ 永久保存版!桧山引退特集号を緊急発売], including one specifically designed to carry and deliver 2.2 kilograms of Sarin." - Human Rights Watch Symptoms of the victims from the attack "provide telltale evidence about the weapon systems used," Bouckaert added. Assad warned in the interview that there would be retaliation against the U.S. for any military strike against Syria. ". Not necessarily from the government," he said when asked to elaborate, an apparent reference to the possibility the regime could unleash allied militant groups such as the Iranian-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah. He added, addressing the U.S., that it would "pay the price if you are not wise with dealing with terrorists." Assad also denied that he was behind the attack, saying his soldiers were "in another area" at the time and insisting that no evidence has been presented. Washington has cited intelligence reports as saying the attack on Ghouta killed at least 1,429 people, including more than 400 children, though other estimates are much lower. The U.S. has been seeking international support for limited punitive strikes against Assad's regime, which it accuses of using chemical weapons in the assault. Al-Moallem's remarks welcoming the Russian proposal, made during a visit to Moscow, were apparently the first official acknowledgment by Damascus that it possesses chemical weapons. U.S. Secretary of State that Assad could resolve the crisis by surrendering control of "every single bit" of his arsenal to the international community by the end of the week.
