== Deadpool Volume 2- Soul Hunter Review ==

<html>The first Deadpool Marvel NOW! story arc was about Deadpool fighting all the newly-resurrected dead American presidents, and this second arc is about Deadpool killing a bunch of superheroes who got their superpowers by selling their souls which turns out to be an even better read than the first book!

Deadpool Volume 2: Soul Hunter kicks off with what could be one of my favourite Deadpool single issues yet. Set during 1979 s Iron Man: Demon in a Bottle, the classic Marvel book which establishes Tony Stark as an alcoholic, Deadpool shows up (despite being created by The Rob in 1991) and meets a demon called Vetis who tries to get him to keep Stark drunk. Deadpool heads off for a brilliant encounter with Tony, and Deadpool-esque dark comedy ensues.

I love this issue so much for so many reasons it mimics the late 70s Marvel look perfectly, it makes fun of a book that hasn t dated well (and really wasn t that great to start with), and is a really funny parody of Marvel s old style of comics. It also makes light of Stark s overblown drinking problem which, while a great idea, was so poorly executed in Demon in a Bottle , a quality that Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan are quick to make fun of. As a prologue to the book, this comic is simply outstanding I wish the whole book had been Deadpool jumping into old popular Marvel books and taking the piss out of them.

Fast forward to the present and the aftermath of the first book, Dead Presidents. Deadpool is sharing his headspace with a dead SHIELD agent called Preston and the necromancer from the first book, Mike, is trying to extricate her into a new body. Meanwhile, the demon Vetis appears once again to force Deadpool to collect the souls of ordinary people now embued with superpowers thanks to a clause in a contract Deadpool signed back in 1979. Let chaos begin!

Deadpool takes on a Luke Cage-a-like, and, perhaps best of all,[http://www.jerseys-online.org/cheap-nike-ravens-55-suggs-purple-elite-jerseys-p-25720.html Suggs Elite Jerseys], an Aquaman-lookalike in some brilliantly bloody encounters. He also fights Daredevil and teams up with the Superior Spider-man as he attempts to assassinate a Donald Trump-lookalike who s hired a number of classic Marvel supervillains, among them the superbly named Paste Pot Pete, to protect him from our crazy but deadly hero.

Posehn and Duggan keep the laughs coming as we get to take a peek inside Deadpool s mind if you re wondering what s inside, think a Chuck-E-Cheese crossed with a warped Louvre as Mike the necromancer gets sent to Hell (artist Mike Hawthorne s vision of Hell is truly horrible, being an endless queue in a bland bureaucratic office environment).

Soul Hunter is thoroughly entertaining until we get to the stuttering finale, which seems to be Deadpool s kryptonite every final act with this character seems awkward and slow. It s like things are flying along wonderfully and then all of a sudden the writers have to remind themselves that the book is coming to an end and they ve got to wrap up storylines and make the book seem whole. It s no different here as the third act showdown between Deadpool and Vetis reads, despite the interesting visuals, kinda dull.



It s a minor complaint though in an otherwise highly enjoyable book. Deadpool fights superheroes and supervillains, both A, B and Z list, and a demon too. It s hilarious, it s entertaining, it s still one of the best Marvel NOW! titles going,[http://www.197399.com/home.php?mod=space&uid=22084 ], it s Brian Posehn and Gerry Duggan s excellent Deadpool series check out Soul Hunter today!

This kind of arrangement can work if all the parties are on the same page. It should work here.

Saunders is trying to build a different culture than under David Kahn, a guy who had a strained relationship with  (Sauders has a much better one) and  during his tenure (but also put together the core of this team which could well make the playoffs this year if they stay healthy). Newton is part of that change.</html>

 Although there is no on-track activity Thursday at the Grand Prix of Baltimore presented by SRT, IndyCar and American Le Mans Series teams were still heavily in action preparing and setting up for the weekend around the street course that encloses Camden Yards. A few quick news and notes to follow from both series:

There’s not much in the way of circuit changes, other than the asphalt being laid down around pit in and the temporary chicane being put in on the front straight. Anthony Lazzaro, who had been rated a Gold driver, will take Cosmo s place in Extreme Speed s No. 01. P2 regulations state at least one Silver driver must be used in a car and Lazzaro, who turned 50 earlier this week (August 26) would qualify to be downgraded to a Silver per that age change. That said, when I asked him directly about the change, he was unsure whether his birthday meant he would have a different driver classification to meet the requirement.</html>

== The Old NHL, Penn State Hockey, and Your FGSB Mailbag ==

But for us, people who have eaten part of a sandwich off of their clothes at some point this summer, the average will do just fine. But if you want to push the issue, the median has gone like this over the same period: 25 24 25 26 26. So there’s that too.

An argument that might hold some water is that there are more Young Bucks (20 under) playing in the NHL than 10 years ago. That’s true, both on a gross aggregate comparison and a Young Buck per Team comparison:

But that s a very short-term view. As you can see, while the figure is higher since 2003 it’s still actually lower than any other point since 1973. Apparently GMs were pedos in the 80 s.

Another argument that holds a thimble of water is that there are now more Young Bucks on any given team than the very scientific category of Old Fart (35+):

So all-in-all, the league is older than it’s ever been, and that makes sense. Advances in training, health and science will benefit old dudes just as much (if not more I’d argue) young dudes. There’s exponentially more money to be made by playing longer. Teams are more cognizant of rushing young players into the league because we’re America (and Canada) and run by bike helmet wearing  and ever since the Sopranos aired it’s OK for men to have feelings.

Shane W: How bad is Penn State Hockey going to get spanked this season?<br> Penn State’s move to The Big Ten is quite a big deal, especially for their hockey team, which I’m sure everyone knows went D1 last year. Their first year in D1 they were independent and actually didn’t do too badly for a really young team. On the official roster there were 14 freshman, 6 sophomores, and 7 juniors. Hey, you when go from club team to the big leagues that transition is going to take some time. With this young team they took down some big clubs in Wisconsin, Vermont, and Michigan State. The realignment has everyone saying they’re going to get whooped up on. On paper it looks like it, but I’m not so sure.

Penn State’s new conference is made up of them, obviously, and Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State, and Ohio State. Those are some perennial power houses in the college hockey world, but Penn State is looking to be better than last year. They have their first ever NHL draft picks joining the program this season, and as you can see above have already done surprisingly decent with the guys that are ALL coming back this year (they went 13-14 last season).

I think they ll probably be about .500 again this season but the real question for me is how long until we see at Rutgers have a D1 hockey team? Is Philly going to become a college hockey town? How long until we see the D1 Florida vs. Florida State hockey match??

Secondly--as can be seen in the trade pulled off today--there was still a month of waiver-period time for a deal to get done. By waiting until August 27th, the Mets were able to pull off quite a deal.

This deal--like most deals--breaks down to a story of two sides. For simplicity's sake, that's how this post is being broken down.

The announcement followed Kerry’s impassioned speech Friday for punishing Assad, whom he called a “thug” and a “criminal.”

However, the largely Republican opposition to the strike had already taken shape and continued Sunday.

Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told NBC’s “Meet the Press” that the U.S. getting involved in the roughly 2-year-long Syrian civil war is a mistake and that the president has about a “50-50” chance of getting House approval.

Democrats also expressed reservations.

"I certainly enter this debate as a skeptic, but I'm going to allow the administration to make its case this week," Connecticut Democratic Sen. Christopher Murphy, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, told NBC.

The administration’s classified briefings Saturday and Sunday included Republicans and Democrats in the GOP-controlled House and the Democratic-controlled Senate, where Obama will likely have the strongest support for the biggest foreign policy vote since Congress authorized President George W. Bush to invade Iraq.

More classified meetings are scheduled in the coming days on Capitol Hill, as party leaders consider whether to call members back from their August recess that ends Sept. 9.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee plans to meet Tuesday.

Kerry, who appeared on all five major Sunday talk shows, said support from Capitol Hill and the public will give American the legitimacy a “full-throated” response.

“Our country is much stronger when we act together,” said Kerry, knocking back speculation that Obama’s weekend announcement went against the advice of his national security team.

“No decision is made until the president of the United States makes the decision,” he said.

Kerry also said Obama has the authority to launch retaliatory strikes with or without Congress' approval, but stopped short of saying the president would do so if the House or Senate withholds support.

In an apparent attempt to win congressional support, he said the United States has received hair and blood samples from first responders indicating sarin was used in the attack in the Damascus suburbs.

It was the first piece of specific physiological evidence cited by the administration, which previously cited only an unnamed nerve agent in the killings.

Washington has struggled to rally allies to its cause, with only France firmly on board among major military powers. Britain cannot be counted on after Parliament rejected using force in a vote last week.

A little more than a year ago, Obama declared that Assad's use of chemical weapons would be the "red line" in a conflict that he has steadfastly avoided. But Obama deferred any immediate action Saturday by announcing that he first would seek congressional authorization.

Late Saturday, the White House sent Congress a draft resolution authorizing force against Syria to "deter, disrupt, prevent and degrade" the Assad regime's ability to use chemical weapons. It doesn't lay out a timeline for action or detail Obama's strategy.

Lawmakers told Fox News after a briefing Sunday that Congress will likely revise the resolution before voting on it. Among their concerns was that the words "targeted" and "limited" were not included, though the president has repeatedly said that would be the scope of such an attack. 

Kerry reiterated Obama's oft-repeated promise not to send any American troops into Syrian territory, a reflection of the president's own aversion to getting too deeply involved in a conflict that has killed more than 100,000 people and drawn in terrorist organizations on both sides of the battlefield.

Polls also show significant opposition among Americans to involvement after a decade of war in the Muslim world, and several officials have cited the faulty intelligence about weapons of mass destruction that led up to the Iraq war as justification of the need for lengthy debate before U.S. military action.

Administration officials said that until late Friday Obama appeared set on ordering a strike without first seeking Congress' approval. After a walk around the White House grounds with Chief of Staff Denis McDonough, the president told his aide he had changed his mind.
