== Couple beat odds with naturally conceived quadruplets ==

<html>Mike Kisner thought the doctor had to be kidding. Triplets, the doctor said. Kisner and his fianc e were having triplets.

The couple had little time to absorb the idea when, two days later, the doctor found a fourth baby.

Kisner, 26, and his fianc e, Charity McCulloch, 39, of Wilmot in Kenosha County, had conceived quadruplets without the assistance of fertility drugs.

 I thought it was a joke at first, McCulloch said.

The couple found themselves in a rather exclusive club. The chance of conceiving quadruplets naturally is 1 in 700,000, said Joseph Davis, a gynecologist and fertility specialist at Froedtert The Medical College of Wisconsin. Experts say 90% of quadruplets are born with the aid of medical technology.

 It is a surprise to have natural quadruplets, but it's not unheard of, Davis said. It's just exceedingly rare. 

The couple had planned to have one child once they were married they plan to marry Aug. 31.

But when the four boys were born at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints Hospital in Racine on June 5, they became an instant family.

 The Lord has a plan for us. I don't know what it is, but He has a plan for us, Kisner said.

Kisner remembers being in the operating room that day with more than 20 doctors and nurses.

 It was very chaotic, he said. Each person had their own little job to do and in a matter of three minutes all of them were out. 

The quadruplets were born at 28 weeks and four days birth normally occurs around 40 weeks. Typically, multiple pregnancies reduce the gestation period about three weeks per baby, or multiple, said Davis.

Because of the early delivery, the quadruplets stayed in the neonatal intensive care unit several weeks after they were born. The smallest baby weighed 1 pound, 12 ounces.

Two boys, Kerrigan and Christian, went home July 29, while Brice and Oliver, the smaller of the four, stayed at the hospital a bit longer. They came home on Aug. 8. None of them faced severe complications.

While family history of twins can increase the

chances of multiple births, the science behind conceiving quadruplets, or even triplets, is a bit of a mystery. Davis said one theory is that the closer women are to menopause, the higher their chances are of multiple births. These women typically have elevated follicle-stimulating hormones levels, which can increase their chance of having more than one egg released.

 From a reproductive standpoint she's closer to advanced reproductive age, Davis said of McCulloch. It may be a factor. 

Davis said the age of the male is usually less of a factor because males have the same fertility chances up until age 50 or 60.

Kisner and McCulloch met at work about five years ago and got engaged last summer. The two are paramedics for Bell Ambulance in Milwaukee.

Though the stress of caring for four babies at once has challenged the new parents, Kisner and McCulloch have prepared themselves.

 We're just trying to keep the boys healthy and keep our sanity, Kisner said.

 Burglary ? A resident of the 400 block of Brights Lane, Penllyn, reported at 1:17 p.m. Aug. 23 that someone entered a property she is renovating and pulled a water line, flooding the inside and causing damage, police said. The resident said she believes someone got into the building through an unsecured rear screen door and pulled a water pipe away from the wall of the laundry room, police said. The water damaged portions of the laundry room, kitchen and basement, police said. Two ladders valued at $200 and $89 were also stolen from the property, police said.

An officer observed Washington turn from Walnut onto Linden and almost hit another vehicle, and he appeared to be having problems operating the vehicle, police said. Washington refused to perform field tests or take a portable breath test and he was taken into custody and transported to Holy Redeemer Hospital for a blood test, where he was uncooperative and verbally abusive, police said. Apple under Mr. Cook has hardly been a razzle-dazzle machine. Since he took over, there has been no product launch to equal the iPod (2001), the iPhone (2007) and the iPad (2010), though judging him after a mere two years in the saddle seems churlish – breakthrough products don’t come at regular intervals. Early next month, Apple is expected to unveil a sexed-up version of the iPhone 5 and a low-price knock-off of the same gadget, which may be called the 5C, designed to compete with Samsung and other Android models in non-wealthy parts of the planet. Ho-hum.
The share price has also been ho-hum. A year ago, the shares hit $705, making Apple the most valuable publicly traded company. They now trade at about $500, though they had sunk to $385 in April. Whether the recent climb has to do with shareholders charging after the handouts demanded by Mr. Einhorn or optimism that Apple, having seen off BlackBerry and Nokia, can do the same with a surging Samsung, is open to debate. My guess is that it is the former.
At the end of the last fiscal year, Apple was sitting on $121-billion in liquid assets (cash, cash equivalents, short- and long-term marketable securities). That’s a fortune and “investors” who had nothing to do with Apple’s phenomenal ability to create must-have consumer items are yearning for a plump slice of the retained and future earnings pie.

Buybacks have always occupied the dark side of capitalism. They signal that management lacks the incentive, or imagination, to put the loot to better use, such as R D or employee development. Buybacks also reward those who sell their shares, not those who hang on to them, as dividends do.

In March, Warren Buffett, one of the greatest value creators of all time, used a CNBC interview to give some unsolicited advice to Mr. Cook, who was then being hounded by Mr. Einhorn. “I would ignore [Einhorn],” he said. “I would run the business in such a manner as to create the most value over the next five or 10 years. You can’t run a business to try and run the stock up every day.”
A month later, Mr. Cook made his $100-billion distribution commitment. With Samsung and a few other rivals coming on strong, and Apple fiddling with updates of existing products, could this money not be put to better use?</html>
