What does the acost of healthcarea mean to-you? To a lot of of us, the cost of health is what we spend of pocketathe co-pays, the deductibles, the co-insurances. I'm sure everyone has been realizing that in the last few years that your cost for insurance out of your paycheck has changed and the charge out of pocket has changed. At Blue Hills Sports & Spine Rehabilitation we're seeing more patients with high-deductible health plans from their employersasome with annually as high as $4000. This is producing people make choices about healthcare more from the customer perspective rather than a patient perspectiveais this beneficial to healthcare? Many of us grew up with health-care that was comprehensivea$5-$10 co-pays, no deductiblesaget to the physician when you are able because it wonat break the bank. The change to these larger co-pays and deductibles is having just the opposite effectait is literally causing many people to go broke and others to delay health-care because they just donat wish to spend the cash on it. Itas sadaand itas maybe not going away. In factait will most likely worsen. I know when I am making my health choices I'm beginning to think like a customer more. Do I go to the ER for something and incur a deductible to wait for 6 hours to see some body, or, do I wait for a few days to see my regular doctor for a $20 office visit? Do I take the medication my prescribed that doesnat possess a generic equivalent and pay $200, o-r, do I just not take the medicine? How did it get like this? Extreme costs from large hospital based methods which can be concentrated more on building houses than treating patients. Many of these places spend more for than it cost to outfit an entire real treatment waiting room seats individual practiceadoes that make sense? And just how do they purchase it? From asking us moreaand then it trickles down from the insurance companies. We have to remember that the insurance firms are for-profit organizations, several with shareholders that are expecting a healthy bottom linearegardless should you are healthy. Having an insurance provider is similar to legalized gamblingayou are setting your prices expecting people donat utilize ser-vices and in the long run, you earn money. They have most of the stats and they do a lot of research to ascertain how much is too much for anyone to pay for routine care. They call it acost sharingaayou pay element of the price to discourage your from accessing the servicesaunless you are just really, really tired and have no choice but to choose care. I considered an of prevention was worth a pound of cure? I assume that only isnat the case anymore.
