Spring-cleaning: for some a task for others a pleasure. I learned about this habit at an earlier age. Now, the thought of spring-cleaning evokes precious memories. The cool curbing days of cold weather were brought out with an annual farm ritual: spring-cleaning, when I was a child, in the land of four months and not one of them rain (Manitoba). Number part of our house was left untouched by brooms, dusters, polish brushes, rags and other cleaning guns. Every inch of closet was emptied, inventories were taken, value was considered, floors were washed and washed, and then those outfits that were still 'good' were arranged in a helpful and effective way. Beds were moved, dressers emptied, ceilings dusted. My memory of preference is the window washing. After windowpanes were removed for cleaning, the windowsill became a location of pure inspiration! I could simply recall these moments: sitting on my ideal perch, seeing the ice split up in the creek behind our house. Huge parts floated by, breaking loudly, turning, bashing, mounting up in a severe proclamation of the newest season's arrival. Outdoors was in abundance; pussy willows to the left, chicken feeders with chirping chickadees to the right. It had been heavenly!
