The first hybrid gas electric car did not emerge in 1983, in 1917. The Woods Double Energy was developed by the Woods Car Company of Chicago. Because the gas engine was so difficult, but supplied more energy and electric cars were softer, but had limited range, the Woods Automobile Company wished to supply an automobile that gave you the very best of both sides. The top part is, it was a full cross (listen up GM) with regenerative braking. The engine was a 12-hp, 4-cylinder gasoline engine that was included by a parallel hybrid being an auxiliary drive system in addition to the electric drive train. The electronic engine can move the vehicle around 2-0 mph. Alongside the gas engine, the double wood power could get up-to 3-5 mph. Electrical engine and the gas engine were linked using a magnetic clutch. The gas engine became magnetized when stimulated (by a controlled by the driver). After the vehicle got up to 20 mph, the gas engine may be involved, letting the electric motor and gas motor to come together. The battery may be energized o-r released by yet another lever. Recharging was done by the gas motor (at speeds over 6 mph) or by braking on level ground or when coasting down hills. A traditional brake pedal was only used at rates of less than 6 mph.
